😢 EIGHT YEARS IN FOSTER CARE.... AND COUNTING... 😢
⭐️🌞 MEET TIPPY AND WHITBY 🌞⭐️
Hello, my name is Tippy. I’m here to tell you a little bit about me and my best friend Whitby. I came into foster care with another rescue as a kitten 8 years ago (yep - you read that right, I’ve been in foster care for eight whole years!). I was quite nervous with new people and that made them overlook me, they always wanted the ‘prettier’, friendlier kittens over a shy girl like myself. I never really understood why no one wanted me, I’m pretty too, I wanted a family too. It definitely broke my heart over time watching other kittens come and go, whilst I got left behind. I know I might take longer to trust you, and that can put some people off - but when I do trust you I promise it is the most rewarding feeling in the world.
So as you can see, life was a bit sad and lonely for me - that is, until Whitby came along 2 years ago. Whitby, who was only a kitten, decided.... no insisted, that I would be his friend. I still don't know why he chose an old girl like me to be his friend, but boy am I glad he did. At the time, I just wanted to hide, eat and be alone. I was in a lot of pain you see, I had urinary crystals that hadn’t been detected yet and they were making me sore and grumpy.
Fast forward a couple of years - we moved from our rescue, into the care of Perth Rescue Angels! Just before I came into care with the Angels, I had major dental surgery and was left with only three teeth! Our new foster mummy noticed I was having trouble working out what food to eat without many teeth, so with the vets advice, she made sure I was eating lots of wet food and drinking lots of water so that I was staying extra hydrated - she even bought me a water fountain to make it a bit more entertaining for me!
Nature
Having lived with mostly other cats in my first rescue for most of my life, I can still be a little nervous when you first approach me. However - the second my new foster mum gets into bed, I love to go up to the side of the bed for head rubs.... and sometimes I’ll even join her ON the bed and demand lots of head pats! My foster mum calls me a doona lump, because I like hiding under it for warmth. We have been with our new foster mum now for 6 months, and it’s taken just as long to really come out of our shells. We still have a bit to go in fully trusting people, but my foster mum has seen my resting face change from grumpy to happy! I'm so glad she took a chance on me and helped me to feel comfortable, and Whitby you can tell he wants to be petted, he just doesn’t know how to approach you just yet.
My mate Whitby is a handsome young man with lots of personality. He isn’t confident with humans yet, but he LOVES other cats. He's persistent in making friends, even if they don't want to be friends, and he wants to play all the time. At night he encourages me to play chasey, which most of the time I can’t decline - he definitely knows how to bring the kitten out of this old gal!
Companions (Children/Cats/Dogs)
We aren't really fazed by dogs or other pets, but we would do a little better in a home without other pets where we can be doted on. You probably won't see us much during the day, we like to curl up together in a nice quiet spot to pass the daytime. So, if you work, we can totally make that work! We are a very inquisitive couple though, we enjoy watching what our mum is up to around the house, and sniffing out rats and mice. Whitby has even caught a small rat in our foster mums kitchen! We are still a little startled by loud noises though, so I don’t think a home with young children is the right place for us.
Likes / Dislikes
We absolutely adore each other and will definitely need to stay together in our new home. We love to play chasey together, especially at night time!
Medical notes
Our PURR-fect home would be with a family without young children that can offer time and patience, without pushing them to be social until they're ready to open up and make the next move.
