Hey friends, my name is Rufus!
I was surrendered to OTC by a kind lady who found me wandering the street. I was really underweight and terrified. It was obvious very quickly, that I had been kicked and smacked a lot too. I was neither microchipped, nor tagged and nobody ever responded to my 'found' ads. Whoever owned me, they clearly didn't want me anymore. So my journey with OTC began.
Despite being really scared at the start, I was always friendly and gentle. I want nothing more than to please my humans and make new friends. I am not fond of big, loud men as they give me a real fright. If I am going to live with some, you might find that I will hide and avoid them, but I will eventually come around, especially if they hand feed me.
Where I currently live, I am behind a 6ft fence and I would prefer to be behind a high fence in my new home too. I sleep inside at night on my bed and love how cosy and warm it is. I am house trained and like to come inside and be part of the family. I can be pretty scared in the car at first, but just sit there quietly. After a bit I learn to calm down and enjoy the views. I LOVE my stuffed toys and playing fetch, and I know sit, shake, wait, inside and outside. I get tucked in at night and am a pro snuggler! I am a quick learner and eager to please, and treats is the way to my heart! My current carer has been home a lot lately so I am used to someone being home. If my new family is away a lot then I would prefer a dog friend at home to keep me company.
I get along well with other dogs, but haven't met cats yet so should not be made to live with any unless they can be kept separate from me. I would prefer to sleep inside at night and be a part of your family, and I really love my walks so will need to go out and see the world 3 times a week.
So what do you think... could you love a goof like me? I promise to let you boop the part of my nose where the dog printer ran out of ink, and in return I will give you endless love and fun.
Adoption details
PLEASE NOTE - DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ADOPTION APPLICATIONS FROM OUTSIDE Queensland. All dogs must be collected by the adopting families, from Toowoomba or Brisbane. Transport cannot be arranged by Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld. We appreciate your understanding.
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $75 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox. (www.facebook.com/offthechaink9)
