Reba ~ 1yo Kelpie x Beagle (On Trial 9/6/20)

Reba McEntire sang “Somewhere out there is somebody”, her beautiful namesake Reba the Kelpie x Beagle is waiting for her perfect match, to love her with all their heart and make her forget anyone could ever leave her.

We’ve had to guess her age as approx 1 year, but Reba is honestly like a 12 week old puppy in an adult body. She desperately wants to be near you and love you and is the sweetest dog you will ever meet. This comes packaged in an incredibly shy and sensitive persona. Reba is having to learn that a hand can be kind and new things, sounds, smells can all be ok, with lots of reassurance from her foster mum.

She is gaining confidence every day, but still rolls over and pees sometimes when she’s not quite sure what’s happening around her. She is learning house training, but sleeps through the night in a crate with no accidents. We are also working on her lead walking, which is coming along great with a harness.

There is no reason Reba couldn’t be an only dog, however, she loooooooooooooooooves her foster sister so much, that ideally we would love for her to have another dog to play and cuddle with. She self settles well on her own and has learnt to sit and wait at open doors and to wait for her food. This girl is exceptionally smart.

It’s hard to put into words how much Reba has stolen our hearts in care. When let inside, she does zoomy laps up and over furniture, onto your lap and off again and gets crazy excited playing tug-o-war with soft toys with her sister. If you stop patting her, she will dig her nose under your arm and ask for more. She has the softest fur, the gentlest touch and a heart of pure gold.

Reba needs a gentle touch. She needs training and socialisation on how to behave in the world, but this has to be done positively and with loads of praise or she just rolls over on her back in complete submission. We will very specifically be looking for someone with the skills and experience to love her back to confidence and earn her trust.

We think she would love an active home, one where she can go on adventures to the beach, long hikes and be included in family time. She is an able jumper and very agile. She will need secure 5ft fencing and a warm place to sleep inside. She is still in puppy chewing mode, so that comes with the package. She has done some superficial exploratory digging, but nothing major and will eat anything she can find, as in chew and swallow, so needs supervision and thought about what is left out.

Reba will be popular because of her looks, but the family we seek will be very carefully matched based on what she needs to succeed. Can you be her somebody?
