About Moby ~ 7 yr Staffy x ~ On Trial 6/6/20
Introducing Moby, a charming medium sized 7 year old Staffy cross. Moby is a lovely boy who is on the lookout for his new furever home - a home with people who will give him loads of attention, affection and help him settle into their loving home. Staffy lovers will adore this gorgeous boy.
Moby is new to foster care so he’s learning the ropes when it comes to living his best life. At the age of 7 years he is a middle-aged chap who is thriving with the attention that he’s receiving. He is a smart boy who will sit beautifully for a treat and has started to learn to “drop” and “wait” (that’s a hard one for such an enthusiastic boy). He responds well to training but he does need to be reminded not to jump up and to be gentle when taking treats (so you don’t lose fingers!) He will need a new family who will focus on and reinforce his basic training. It’s unlikely he’s had toys before so he will resource guard them - he requires a family who will focus on teaching him to share - “trading” his toy/ball for treats or other rewards.
Moby loves walking - at 7 years he’s a very spritely fellow and will zig-zag up the street needing to smell anything and everything! He does pull on the lead at first to reach new smells but he soon settles down. He’d love daily walks or even short jogs - and if you use a front clipping harness his initial pulling will ease.
Moby is super friendly when meeting new women - he’ll be their new best friend in a heartbeat. He does have fears of some men and therefore will take a real disliking to them. He’s great with his foster dad who is a very gentle man so he does have great potential to be friendly with men if they are soft natured and don’t impose on him too quickly. Moby will require a family who will put a lot of work into teaching him that meeting new men is a positive and rewarding experience for him. We are after a home with no children. Older teens may be OK if all interactions with them and their visiting friends can be controlled and positive.
Moby is in foster care with 5 medium to large female dogs and he has shown us that he is dog social. He will run around the yard with them and play tug-of-war . He isn’t a fan of little yappy dogs barking in his face when out walking so little dog interactions should be monitored and kept positive. Moby will need to learn to share his humans with other dogs as he can get jealous of other dogs getting the attention which is quite common with new dogs in new environments. So if you have another female, friendly dog you’ll also need to be experienced with multi-dog households and continue his training in sharing his people. We recommend always separating at diner time.
Moby is learning inside house manners as being inside is very new to him and he is loving it! His perfect furever home is one where he is allowed inside whenever his family is home and to sleep inside. Crate training in the house would be very beneficial to his training. He would ideally suit a single person or couple without kids who are over about 35 years of age. People with experience with staffies or other active medium sized breeds will love this fellow. He may also suit a semi-retired active couple or single person who have a lot of time to focus on him and his training.
