IMPORTANT NOTICE

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING FOR A DOG

We are very concerned about the health of our volunteers and their families.
To protect them, we require you to read the following and answer honestly before any meet and greets can be organised.

IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS

Any of these symptoms, or any family member displaying, we ask you to wait before applying for a dog -

* Coughing or sneezing
* runny or blocked nose
* shortness of breath
* high temperature or fever
* sore throat
* aches or pains
* other flu like symptoms

If you have returned from overseas or been on a cruise anywhere in the world, please do not apply within 2 weeks of your return to Australia.

If you are in self isolation, please do not apply, you need to stay at home.

Thank you for valuing our carers health, knowing that a false declaration will endanger them and any future animals that we would be unable to help.

Lois is a sweet and playful lass with a snuggly and slightly cheeky side. She’s looking for an active home and would suit an active person or couple, or a family with older children where she’ll have company a lot of the time. Lois could be happy as an only dog or with another if they get along although probably not a cat. She quickly warms to people (even if first sounding the alarm) and will bring you her teddy or monkey as an offering to make friends. If she is left alone too long, you may find a stolen shoe with her when you return as a protest but she has not shown herself to be a chewer.

She’s quite sturdy and strong, spritely and playful, loving her walks and visits to the dog park, and could be a good running companion with a little more lead training to ignore distractions. She walks well on a the lead and loves to play fetch but hasn’t quite mastered the ‘return’ aspect yet.

She enjoys meeting other dogs but can be particular about which ones she likes to play with and can get distracted by them on walks. Her preference is for dogs her own size or bigger, as smaller dogs tend to frighten her and she can react to them with jumping up and barking. She is learning to manage her manners in this respect and has come a long way in a short time to improve her behaviour. She can also jump up when she gets excited or in need of reassurance. She will need someone who is calm, in control and is willing to continue supporting her with this.

Lois is generally a gentle dog that loves her snuggle time on the couch. Mostly an indoor dog, she needs good access to outdoor spaces so a yard she can play in would be ideal. She is a lady of her own device and will sometimes patter around after you to see what’s going on, or be happy curled up on her own. She loves to learn and is quick to pick up new behaviours. She will sit and shake on command, and has learnt to wait for food and on her way out of the door for walks.
