About Reindeer. Melbourne
Reindeer is a loveable boy, with gorgeous eyes and a burning desire to cuddle the day away. He loves his humans so much, that every morning is like a long-lost reunion of loved ones. Reindeer shows his happiness and excitement for a treat with a chatter of his teeth.
He is full of energy and would love a forever home with a garden that he can continue his morning backyard play time with his toys. In fact he loves his toys so much that he is wont to destroy them. Reindeer also enjoys two daily walks on top of his backyard time.
Reindeer has very much learnt the routine in his new home and loves it so much he will hurry his owners up with a little howl. He has shown he is a quick learner and a good listener, he has learnt to go to bed, to sit in bed and when he needs to leave a room. Reindeer is eager to please his humans!
Reindeer is still learning that food is now a consistent component of his life and has a little bit of trouble controlling himself around it. His forever humans will need to be very careful about leaving food within his reach, as he loves to snack on whatever he can find. Reindeer loves being around food, and is learning that ‘ah ah’ means no, or to move away. He is still learning to be gentle when taking treats.
Reindeer is a good-natured lad; and has been okay with the kids and other dogs he has met so far. Reindeer has not been tested with cats, so no cat or small dog homes please.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
