About Genie. Queensland
Hi! I’m Genie and I love bananas. My foster folks love me so much they’ve already given me a bunch of nicknames – Genie-Baneenie, Beenie, Bean, Magic Bean, Jumping Bean and Crazy Banana. Not bad for a little girl who’s only about two years old and still has a lot of puppyness in her! I am very energetic, sometimes even boisterous, and I get excited about going places in the car especially to the beach. I was scared of it at first but in a few weeks I came to really adore running and jumping in the water or, doing what my foster people call “doing the prawn.”
I’m affectionate, sweet and petite and I’ll come when you call me by my real name but I love having all my pet names too. I’m not too sure about little kids yet because I haven’t met many but I’m okay with small dogs and I used to live with a cat so I’m sure I’ll be fine with kids too, just so long as they don’t make too much noise at first. I play well with others and would prefer to have a doggie companion to live with.
Not only am I a pretty black girl with bits of white, but I’m clever too and learn really quickly, plus I’m not stubborn. My foster people let me on their bed but if you don’t want me on yours, it won’t take long for me to learn not to get up there.
I can jump really high – straight up in the air! I use this amazing skill to bark at dogs who come too close to my fence but I’m not aggressive – just excited to see them. My foster folks are teaching me not to go this and I get better about it every day.
You're going to love me, I know. I already love you.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
