About Barney
Barney, the short haired Border Collie, arrived in the depths of despair - he was so sad and cried for the first couple of days.
The terrible treatment he’s been subjected to in his short life is painfully evident - the scalding on his back, side and flank area (the hair may never grow back, the hair follicles possibly destroyed), his hind leg that was broken as a puppy and left to heal by itself without veterinary care.
The leg has received our Vet’s tick of approval to leave well enough alone, it is fully healed and has a full range of motion, “it is what it is”, stated the vet. It doesn’t affect Barney in any way, it’s a bit of a “gammy leg” that he will have for life, that won’t need any treatment.
We don’t think Barney should be denied a lovely life because of his leg however.
Despite all of this, Barney began to show signs of happiness very quickly. He is so loving and loyal, he started to play with the other dogs and to cavort around like a spring lamb.
He’s a delightful boy to handle, wonderful on the leash, a fabulous traveller in the car and lay quietly at my feet at the vets while we waited our turn. He responds beautifully to his name, though he’s only had his name for a short time. He was previously known by another name that wasn’t associated with anything positive in his life, which I was happy to leave in his past.
Barney is wonderful with other dogs of all sizes. He adores me, his foster carer, but he will quickly come to love his adoptive family and I will only be a distant memory. Barney sleeps in the kennels, but whenever he comes inside the house, he’s spotlessly clean.
There is a BUT however, Barney needs a home where someone is around more often than not, he adores being close to his human/s - someone retired or who works from home would be ideal.
Barney is in care at Moree, NSW on acreage, where he enjoys his off leash walks in the paddocks and bush.
Medical notes
Fully vet checked.
Scarring on his body from some type of scalding.
An old injury, a broken and fully healed, untreated left hind leg, full range of motion, does not affect him in any way and won’t require vet treatment.
