About Joey
Joey (very much like a baby kangaroo) is a very loving and confident pup who loves being with his family (furry and human).
He is an excitable fella and acts like a teenager, getting on his hind
legs and standing tall to check out things that's too high for him to see. When he gets really excited, his teeth chatter which is very cute!
He has been receiving lots of training and socialisation in his foster home to ensure that he begins his journey to being a good canine citizen and will need a home committed to his ongoing training using positive reinforcement methods and one preferably with previous experience of raising larger high energy pups.
He has been having so much fun with his furry foster brothers, so a home with another young confident, and friendly dog that likes to play, play, play would be ideal. One that would be a role model for Joey to follow would be a bonus. Joey can be persistent and rough in his playing not unlike most energetic dogs, so he would be best suited to a dog larger than him and one that understands this type of play and enjoys it. His carer has been working on his calming signals however his new home would need to continue to help Joey with this and his carer will be able to give you some tips on this if needed.
Joey would suit a calm home and if there are children they would need to be over 16 as he is still learning his boundaries and can be jumpy.
Joey is an active pup so he will need an active home committed to daily exercise of an hour or so at least and one that will not just leave Joey in the backyard to entertain himself. His new home will also need to continue to include Joey as much as possible in getting him out and about in the car on adventures as he just loves the car.
Once Joey has burnt off his energy, all he wants to do is snuggle with you on your lap and sleep for ages. Thankfully, he doesn't shed very much!
Joey can walk on a loose lead right beside you (and not in front), but will require consistency to continue this skill. He walks past other people and on busy roads without much distraction. He does get excited if he sees another dog however as he thinks every dog is his new best friend so his carer has been working on this but again will still need further training in this regard.
Joey loves to play tug of war, and fetch and is working hard on the retrieve part of fetch at moment:)
Joey must be permitted access inside at all times (not necessarily all areas), on the couch for his cuddle time and be permitted to sleep in a warm area inside his new home.
Joey is housetrained in his current environment, however his new home will, of course, be a new environment and his new owner will need to set him up to succeed in this regard, however, again if needed simple advice can be given on what to do to succeed in this regard.
Joey deserves a loving and committed fur parent/s. He will become a very beautiful dog one who is capable of so much.
If you would like to meet Joey, please send us as much information as possible about yourself, lifestyle, family members, dog, other pets, and location so that we can see if you are a good match.
