Hi everyone!
My name is Judy. My owner had abandoned me in the council pound and I was kill-listed... it was a really terrifying experience for me. Thankfully, OTC stepped up and saved me and my other pound friends! And now, I'm never looking back. Nobody knows why I was abandoned...like so many thousands of dogs in my state each year, it probably was not at all to do with me, but just the seemingly disposable mentality of some of our community. Their loss- I am wonderful! I don't seem to have been very well cared for in past. I had a gross metal collar that was bolted closed on me, and I have clearly been used for breeding a lot. I probably had a litter each heat cycle, which is really unfair on me. I came in with no vet work done- they didn't even bother to microchip me. Thankfully now I am fully vetted and desexed, and not going to be used anymore!
My exact breed mix is unknown, but we think staffy/mastiff x wolfhound. I have a medium energy level and am medium-large size. At approx 18 months of age, I am 25kg. I love other dogs and get along great with them. I am also food orientated so easy to train!
I am happy at home alone during the day because I have two doggy friends to hang out with. We spend our days on the grass or the deck. I'm polite in the house, but also happy to sleep in the carport or outdoor area. I love to snuggle my humans, and play with my toys. Food makes me excited- but I won't over indulge... good treats is the way to my heart. I have an awesome smile and I love to follow the humans around.
I currently live behind a mesh fence approx 1.5m high. While I could easily jump it, I never have- I seem to know where my safe place is! My ideal home has another dog/s for company, and if you have cats we must be kept separate unless being directly supervised (no 'outdoor'/roaming cats) as I have not met any cats since coming into OTC care, so my rescue can't promise I am cat friendly. I love to be a lap dog (there is no such thing as too big to be a lap dog!) and am very much a couch potato. I love my morning walks, and am working on my leash skills. I behave well while being bathed, even though we don't think I have had many or any before - same at the vet! I had NO vet work done prior to coming into the rescue, and was very nervous but quickly realised, everyone here has treats! I LOVE THIS PLACE!
I am used to carers that are away from the house for a few hours during the day, and would love to be taken on walks a few times a week. I would also love to be allowed into the home if possible, especially at night.
So what do you think? Am I the missing piece in your family?
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic in your area and OTC will cover any treatment needed.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox.
