About Kevin
All About Me and My Unique Personality:
Kevin is a sweet and extremely affectionate soul who loves nothing more than curling up in your lap for a snuggle and a pat. Kevin is a very lazy cat and doesn’t mind snoozing the day away in his cat cave or on the couch with his humans. He can be timid and scare easily but every day that he is in care he is coming more and more out of his shell. We have introduced many toys to Kevin but he isn’t really sure what to do with them, he does however love a little mouse toy that has catnip in it and when he is feeling energetic he will roll around with it. Kevin is excellent at using his litter tray and is all round a very low maintenance, quiet boy.
Unfortunately, Kevin has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), sometimes known as Feline AIDS. There is no cure for FIV and Kevin will have this condition for the rest of his life. FIV depletes the number of white blood cells meaning that Kevin will have an impaired immune system and is more susceptible to illness. Kevin will need prompt veterinary assistance if he was to become ill and he will to be kept up to date with preventative care like flea/worming and vaccinations. There is no way for us to predict what complications (if any) FIV will cause Kevin but he deserves the chance to have a normal and happy life in a home where his family are committed to his ongoing care.
FIV is present in the blood and saliva of infected cats and the main route of infection is through biting. FIV is not transmissible in any way to humans or dogs but it can be transferred to other cats. For this reason, Kevin will need to go to a house where he is the only cat and where he is kept inside only.
My Ideal Home:
As Kevin has FIV he will need a home where he is strictly inside only, this is to limit the risk of other cats contracting FIV from Kevin. His ideal home would be one where his family will have the patience to let him settle in and get used to his new surroundings. Kevin needs a family who is fully committed to his ongoing care and willing to give Kevin the love and devotion he deserves to have a chance at a normal life. As Kevin has FIV he must be the only cat in the household. Kevin is very friendly with our large dog and would be fine in a house with a dog if it wasn’t boisterous.
What is Known About My Background:
Not much is known about Kevin's background. He was left in an overnight collection pen at a rural pound and was not claimed by his previous owner. Kevin will choose to sleep in a cardboard box with a blanket rather than a soft fluffy bed and he doesn’t have any interest in toys, which makes us wonder what his life was like before rescue. Each day we have him he is showing more of his sweet personality and learning more about how to be a cat.
How Do I Interact with Kids, Dogs, Cats and Other Pets:
Kevin was introduced to our large dog on his second day in our house and took an immediate liking to him. He didn’t show any signs of fear or aggression and head bumps our dog seeking attention and kisses. Kevin isn't very interested in other cats and from what we have observed he is very submissve. Kevin has not been around children but he is super affectionate and sweet so if the children were quiet and gentle with him I think he would be fine.
