About Keanu
Hi there, I’m Keanu! I’m a mature gentleman, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at me, because there’s barely a hint of grey in my sleek black coat. I guess good looks and speed are just a few things I share with my namesake!
Being an older gent I know what I like in life and that’s a home with someone who’s home to spoil me more often than not. If I’m not getting enough attention I sometimes like to remind you by barking, although my foster pawrents are helping me to work on my manners!
Really what I’m after is just a nice warm home with some comfy spots where I can spend my retirement years getting plenty of TLC. Maybe we can even watch some TV together… the Matrix, perhaps?
Some notes from Keanu’s foster family
Keanu is settling in nicely into our home.
Likes: chasing balls, car rides (including sticking his head out the window!); sleeping/napping; walkies around our neighbourhood; BBQ chicken; yoghurt/PB on his lickimat; face scratches and pats; vegging out on his own.
Dislikes: tiles/slippery surfaces (he is very careful and walks slowly); when his favourite toy is out of reach (he lets us know by barking at us to get it out for him!); when dinner is taking too long (he sometimes gets too excited and barks).
He has met many other small dogs and after a slow introduction he is very relaxed around them. He still barks at some dogs during our walks so we are doing some training with him in that area. We also training him to “stay”, respond to “yes”, “walk” and “dinner”, and reducing unnecessary barking by rewarding good behaviour.
Keanu would make a great apartment dog. He is familiar with the lift and has proven that he doesn’t need much room or a backyard, as long as he goes on regular walks and can go to the bathroom on a balcony or common grass area. I would also recommend he live near a fenced dog park or similar area so he can chase his ball around, preferably on his own/at off-peak times.
He currently has a stiff back leg and is taking osteosupport pills to assist his joints.
Adoption details
All of Greyhound Rescue's adoption and foster placements are on a case-by-case basis. We go to great lengths to match each dog with their new family to make sure that both dog and family are happy. We offer post-adoption support to our rescue community so that each adoptive family and hound are cared for.
We will send you an application form to complete and return. Then we will arrange a house check. It is important that the right hound goes to the right home! We can arrange for you to meet the dog/s and they can meet your family and/or other pets. Our hounds go “on trial” with your family for a minimum of 2 weeks.
Greyhound Rescue's adoption fee is $385. All our hounds are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated, and heartworm tested and treated. The adoption fee also includes our New Adopter Kit - collar, leash, muzzle and loads of other goodies to help you get your new hound settled into the family.
