About Brax. Melbourne
Our boy Brax is a reserved gentleman who is looking for a very special home! He’s a handsome brindle boy, sleek and shiny and the size of a tiny horse. Instead of the greyhound lean, Brax’s special move is to snuffle you with wet nose boops.
Sometimes, Brax can take a while to warm up to new people and places, but once settled he’ll show you his goofy, silly side! He has short bursts of energy with play and zoomies, and then returns to his bed for a long-overdue snooze. He would love a backyard to perform those daily zoomies. He adores basking in the sun, so a backyard is a must!
Brax is an excellent house guest, he sleeps through the night and is toilet trained. Whilst he’s highly motivated by food, he’s learnt to respect when his foster folk are eating and is polite when asking for food. Brax does a funny thing where whenever he wants something, he’ll sit to get your attention. He can sit on cue and knows ‘drop’ too!
Adapting to pet life and navigating it can often be challenging for ex-racing greyhounds, Brax can get overwhelmed very quickly with unfamiliar people and other dogs. He’s learning how to be affectionate and has come a long way since being in foster care. Brax much prefers affection on his own terms, he enjoys his own space and his own company, and isn’t a fan of being picked up.
He would thrive in a quiet household, with a quiet walking route. Brax has been working on his freezing during walks and interactions with other dogs. This is something that will require a confident and experienced owner to help him navigate the outside world, as it can be quite challenging for Brax.
He would much prefer to sun himself in the yard, rather than going on long walks or adventures. He’s a true homebody in this sense.
Brax will thrive as a solo hound. He’s worked hard during his time in foster care to build up his confidence and resilience in being left alone when his foster folk go out. Whilst this will require ongoing management, being left alone is now something that Brax copes well with and is content to nap until you come home.
Brax will blossom with consistent routines, praise, daily exercise and mental stimulation, enrichment toys and gentle, calm and positive introductions with other dog breeds. Brax will need forever folk who are willing to continue his positive reinforcement training and behaviour modification.
Due to his size, Brax is best suited to a home without children, and isn’t a fan of small dogs or cats! This hunk is ready to move in with you!

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
