About Captain Caveman ~ 5yo Great Dane (On Trial 16/4/20
Captain Caveman is a 5 year old, male Great Dane x. He really is a gentle giant who just loves to be with his humans and will follow you around the house.
Captain Caveman is a very laid back boy who is happy to sit on the lounge or relax in the sun, but will become excited when fun things are happening eg. play time with another dog. He loves going for walks and likes to walk in front. He would be perfect for a fast walker or someone who loves to jog, but will walk at a slower pace if his humans are. He will need someone strong to walk with, but he is not bothered by other humans or dogs while he walks.
Captain Caveman is house trained, and will not have an accident inside as long as the back door is left open or someone is home when he asks to be let out. He is also not a barker. He is not a chewer and does not attempt to destroy items in the house, but will steal and play with cuddly items like teddy bears and fluffy slippers.
He will wait for you to get his food ready and place it on the ground and he shows no aggression with food. He might help himself to food in reach but will not try and take it from you. He is wary of taking treats out of your hand and does it very gently.
Captain Caveman is currently living with pet rats and shows no aggression towards them, he is just interested in what they are doing. He loves play time with other dogs, is good and gentle with small dogs and fine with other male dogs. He showed no interest in a cat that was dog friendly and walked straight past it but was very keen on a cat who was not dog friendly, tail was wagging and he wanted a serious play time but showed no aggression.
He is fine when he can see you walking around the house and knows what you are doing, but follows you outside to see what you are up to and will stay with you until his happy you are not leaving. He is ok with one person leaving the house but if both people leave he will stare at you from the window and be sitting in the same place watching when you return. While he is a gentle boy, he hasn't been tested with young children and may be better with older kids due to his size.
He can be a little timid at first but learns to trust quickly. He will let strangers into your yard and run up happily for a pat. He was a little worried about hopping in the car but was good when he realized good things were happening. He is not keen on having his bath, but will sit there quietly and allow you to wash him with no problems. His skin condition looks ok now. Regular baths in a medicated shampoo will keep him looking good.
