About Duchess ^^Dandy Cat Rescue^^
🐱🐱 $50 adoption fee, negotiable 🐱🐱
In her short life so far, Duchess has experienced more than most kitties her age. Duchess arrived into our care as a heavily-pregnant stray. She was very frightened, but also very grateful for a safe place to rest before giving birth.
Duchess turned out to be an amazing mum to her nine babies. Yes, that’s right. Nine. And as cats only have eight nipples, you can tell how hard it would be to keep all nine alive – but she did! With a lot of help from her foster carer to rotate the kittens to make sure they all fed enough, Duchess was a natural at nurturing her babies.
Now that her kittens have all found their own homes, Duchess is ready to start her own life with her own person (or people) to love. But what Duchess really needs is someone who understands cats - especially shy cats - to help bring out her best.
Duchess is wary to start with, but she truly wants to get closer to people, she’s just afraid. Having had to fend for herself on the streets has made Duchess cautious, and she will hide in a safe place in the home while venturing out for pats and cuddles more gradually.
Duchess has responded well over time and with the use of Feliway spray – she has now become more adventurous and has relaxed enough to be playing like a kitten - chasing ping pong balls everywhere and playing with the older child in her foster home.
Duchess needs a quieter household, but one that understands that as atwo-year-old Duchess still wants to play. She would not suit a home with young children (0-8 years) or a home with other pets especially, although with slow introductions she might do well with a small dog or a kitten (she has wonderful mothering skills).
Over time, and in the right home, Duchess will let her guard down. She is slowly learning about being picked up by her current foster carer, but only in short stints and only when she’s settled. Duchess is not a lap cat, but again this could develop over time. She does occasionally curl up against her foster carer’s leg in bed.
Duchess needs a kind and patient person to care for her - someone who gets that she will be a little scared to start with, but that she will blossom and relax as time goes on. We want a loving home for this very deserving girl, who desperately needs her second chance.
