About Marley
This beautiful dog is intelligent, energetic and practically bursting with love.
Marley’s humans come before all else. A simple “good girl” will make her day. She wants to be with her people as much as possible so someone working from home or part-time would be best. She also loves her daily walks, playing in the water and a nice nap in the warm sun. Marley lived with kids in one of her past homes so kids over 10 should be fine as long as they are prepared for a jumping greeting and face licks.
Marley aims to please and is motivated by food and attention. So far she has learnt sit, drop, wait and come with a fair amount of reliability. When you call her on the long lead or in the yard she comes hurtling towards you, ears flapping and full of joy. Speaking of joy, Marley is always excited for playtime and loves to catch the ball - she has recently discovered its more fun to make you chase her than to give it back. She’ll lie by your feet and squeak her toys with glee. This excitability also lends itself to jumping on people to give kisses and lots of leash pulling; Marley must sniff every tree!
Marley hasn’t had the smoothest life so far, so there will be challenges for her forever family. Guidance from her human pack, patience and dedication will her move past her insecurities. We think there may have been a man in Marley's earlier life who was not so nice to her as Marley takes longer to warm to some males than she does women. But with a little bit of time, and a proper introduction she soon comes around. Having said that there are some men that Marley falls in love with on first meeting! So we are not saying that she doesn't initially warm to all men.
Marley would be best suited as an only dog, at least while she settles in and learns some manners. She barks and lunges at other dogs on walks, although this has improved at long distances. She lived with other dogs in the past but has taken a long time to get used to her current foster brother so they aren’t left together unsupervised. If you have a dog who is calm and friendly, you should still apply but meet and greets are a must.
Marley is mixed breed but the German Shepherd in her mix is her dominant breeding. A family with GSD breed experience would therefore, be an advantage. Marley will be a wonderful addition for the right family; promising lots of love and devotion. But, you must be as committed to her as she is to you. Marley needs further training to reach her full potential as a fiercely loyal and well-behaved dog.
