About Lola ~ Great Dane x ~ On Trial 20/9/20
Introducing Lola - our lovely chocolate coloured 6 year old Great Dane x Mastiff. Lola is a large and playful dog who at times thinks that she is still a puppy. If you love gentle giant dogs then this girl may be a great match for you.
We are helping Lola to find a new family that will love her for her size and her quirks. She craves human companionship and would like to be fully included in her new family’s day to day routine. She is fairly low energy but she does enjoy a daily stroll (she doesn’t need to go far!) and she walks well on lead.
Lola has previously lived with 2 small dogs and she’s currently in foster care with a few other medium dogs. She hasn’t had a lot of exposure meeting new dogs outside of the yard - she finds being out pretty exciting though! Therefore we are looking for dog-savvy people who will take her out exploring the world, a family who can commit to the time and patience involved in slowly introducing her to other dogs and people when out and about. She’s not a dog park kind of gal as she can find other dogs a tad intimidating, but then given that she’s such a low energy dog running around a park with others is low on her social schedule !
Lola loves the luxuries of life (like stealing that spot next to you on the couch) however she needs to learn some boundaries and part of those limitations mean that she has her own cosy bed on the floor rather than claiming the best seats in the house. If allowed to rule the roost Lola will certainly take advantage of it - so her family will need to be experienced enough to provide her with the routine and consistent boundaries that she needs.
Lola has good manners, is toilet trained, and she also knows her basic commands like sit and shake. She does love being the centre of attention so this will help you with her ongoing training. Lola is a very tall girl so she needs 6 foot solid fencing (like colourbond) to keep her safely inside her own yard - even though we aren’t sure if she would jump a lower fence, with her long legs she just might think she can!
Lola would be best suited to a home where someone is home part-time. She has lived with a cat previously - however if you do have a cat then a slow introduction to any large dog of Lola’s size is a must. We know from her previous home that she can live with small dogs however we really want her to be an only dog or perhaps with another senior male, so that her family can help adjust to life with them and can focus on her boundaries. Due to her size we are looking for a home with no young children.
For more information on our big sweet girl please submit an adoption questionnaire at https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt or contact Jo on rescuepooch75@gmail.com .
Lola is in Medowie (north of Newcastle). She is available for long distance adoption only to the right home and to a family prepared to travel.
Lola’s adoption fee is $250 which includes desexing, vaccinations, treatment for fleas and worms, and microchipping.

Medical notes
Lola is pretty fussy with food which can lead to weight loss. She requires a family who will focus on giving her good quality food - home cooked including pasta , rice and delicacies like fish and raw meats would go down well with this big lean girl
