Hey everyone!
My name is Kayla! Left to die in a rural QLD pound as a little puppy, I came to OTC with no history or information available. I had no vet work done but OTC have now had me vaccinated, desexed, microchipped and wormed etc. I am a healthy, happy girl. I quickly settled into care and have proven myself to be a gentle, obedient and loving girl. I adore the company of other dogs, and am gentle with humans and willing to please. Food orientated, I would be easy to teach new tricks to. I currently know sit, stay and come. I like car rides, and will sit quietly on the back seat looking out at the world- sometimes when we first get in I am a bit nervous as not all car rides have been nice for me (eg when I was left at the pound!) but I am fast learning that I will never be treated like that again. I would be a fun dog to take to dog parks and on walks. I rarely bark and have shown no sign of destructive tendencies.
I currently sleep outside with the other dogs on the deck. I have also spent a couple nights where I was crated inside, and I did ok with that too. I'm a fairly easy going doggo who will learn fast whatever you want me to do. My current fence is only 4ft, and while I am not an escape artist, I CAN climb mesh and will try to follow you to work. If I had eg a wood or colourbond fence, I would be fine, and this was proven when I was tested at another foster home with a 1.5m wooden fence. It is just mesh that makes it easy for me! I love to play soccer with our 'giggle call', and play fetch and tug-a-war. I can be a little scared of machinery eg mower, chainsaw- but that's really common.
I am home alone during the day for up to 6hrs when my carers are at work. I just hang out with the other doggos and play with our toys. I live with 2 other dogs, and 3 cats- and am friendly and gentle with all of them. I am also good with little human children!!
My ideal home has a decent fence to keep me safe, another dog for company, and will take me out a few times a week to run, sniff, roll, and explore the world! My breed has been put down as 'arab' as nobody can tell what exact mixes I am- but as we all know, breed really doesn't matter that much. I have a huge heart and am expected to reach 30kg fully grown. I am a lot shorter than I can appear in photos, I just have super long pretty legs!
So, if you're looking for a sweet, happy final piece to your family- it may be me. Apply to meet me and you'll see how wonderful I am!!
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
- Cats are adopted under the expectation they will be kept indoors or in an enclosed area eg cat run or cat-net veranda. We provide cats with core vaccines up to date while in care, however recommend a full FIV/FELV protocol especially if the cat will go outdoors.
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox.
