About Teddy
Teddy is a super sweet boy who just wants to be loved. He is timid by nature and will best suit an adult only home. He is very affectionate and loves to be close to his humans. He travels well in the car,is well behaved inside the home and good at the Vets. He weights just over 4kg.
He was surrendered by a breeder. A neighbor made a noise complaint, when the council went to investigate, they found too many dogs in her home and she was told to downsize the number of dogs or several would be confiscated. Teddy as one of the dogs surrendered. He was kept locked up in the breeders house for a full year so was never walked or exposed to the big wide world. As a result he is anxious on a walk when passing people or dogs that he doesn't know. He expresses this anxiety by barking. Once he passes the people or dogs he goes quiet again. As a result the following is suggested whilst he is gaining his confidence:
His new owner walk him in locations where there are few other people or dogs ie bushland or more remote areas than the local dog park,
His new owner engage the assistance of a dog behaviorist to teach you how to reduce and respond to his shows of anxiety,
His new owner to have the time and patience to build his confidence by introducing him slowly to new dogs and people.
Teddy has a non shedding coat that is suitable for people with allergies. He will need clipping at the Grooming Salon at least 6 times per year.
Poodles need loads of contact with their humans and thrive when in an environment where they are a priority in the daily lives of their owners. This means owners need to have the time for cuddles, time for daily walkies, willingness to include him in outings and activities. These dogs become like shadows to their owners and are the opposite of independent or aloof.
I am looking for a very specific type of owner who has previously owned a poodle or poodle cross and understands the maintenance involved in keeping these dogs comfortable in relation to their coat and teeth. Owners who have a checkable history of caring for a previous dogs teeth and grooming would be preferred.
Teddy was still available for adoption on 1st April. If you can offer him an excellent home, please answer the following questions via email:
Number of people who live in the home and their ages?
Do all adults work full time?
How many hours per day would the dog be left alone?
Do you own the home or renting?
Will the dog live outside or inside the home?
If inside, will he have full access to the house or only allowed in certain rooms?
Where will the dog sleep at night?
How often will the dog be taken for a walk?
How long are the walks ie 15minutes,30minutes,1 hour?
Are there any outings or activities the dog will be included in other than walks?
Are there any other dogs currently in the house? If yes, what breed?
If not, when did you last own a dog and what breed was it?
How regularly will the dog be clipped?
What food do you like to feed your dog?
Do you give your dog any sort of monthly treatment to keep it free from fleas, worms etc?
Feel free to describe the sort of life a dog can expect to live in your family.
Medical notes
Teddy has had a Health check by the Vet and is in very good condition other than being underweight. He is eating well so should be at a healthy weight soon. His heart and knees are all good.

AdoptionProcess
1. Answer the question above and email to re.grant@yahoo.com.au
2. Answers will be reviewed within two week o being received. A shortlist of preferred applicants are chosen consisting of around 3-4 applicants who best match the dogs needs. Only those shortlisted applicants will be contacted for further information. It is not unusual for me to receive 100 applications for any one dog(especially if it’s young and healthy) so contacting everyone is just not viable.
3. Those shortlisted applicants will then be contacted no later than two weeks from the date of application. If you have not been contacted by the two week mark, then assume that you have not been shortlisted.
4. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to provide a Vet and Grooming reference. This means that with the applicants permission, I will contact their Vet and Groomer to see how well they have looked after any current or past dogs.
5. I then conduct viewings with the few applicants that have excellent references to see if they like the dog and visa versa. This usually involves around 1-3 potential families.
6. Once a preferred applicant is chosen, I then conduct a fence check at their home to ensure it’s secure.
7. If both parties are comfortable to proceed, then adoption takes place. The adoption fee is paid, an adoption agreement is signed and a two week trial begins. Adoptive parents can return the dog within the two week trial period and receive a full refund if things don’t work out.
