About Copper
Copper is a handsome boy on the larger end of medium at about 30 kg. He is a very charming fellow who loves his people and is great company. He's very calm around the house, and loves nothing more than a big long nap. Most of the time he sleeps on the dog beds, but occasionally he comes on the bed in the afternoon for a special nap with his foster carer and he loves to rest his head on her and have a good snuggle. While he looks like an athlete, he actually has a moderate exercise requirement, and when he is off lead he doesn't run around that much and stays pretty close. He has great recall too. He walks well on the lead by himself and with other dogs on the lead as well. Copper is currently in foster care with 9 other dogs of different ages. He gets on quite well with them on the whole but is inclined to be a bit on the jealous side, so we can see him thriving with a human of humans of his own to look after. His great strengths are his intelligence and obedience, and also his comical ways that make us laugh.
Copper came into care originally when he was about 10 weeks old with his littermates who had been left behind in one of the Tennant Creek town camps. He was adopted by a family in Alice Springs wo loved him very much. Unfortunately he had a serious chewing habit as a pup and his owners crated him to limit the destruction eventually for many hours a day. This led to a cascade of behaviours developing. Eventually he was returned for rehabilitation. He has been back a year now, 6 month on anti-depressents which helped him a lot, and then lots of freedom and stimulation, and social exposure. He has done just so well to put all that behind him. We are very proud of him. Now is his time to find his own place in the world with family who can love and appreciate him. He will repay that with great devotion.
Our rescue and rehabilitation work happens in Central Australia, but because of the scarcity of adopters locally, our re-homing operation is in South Australia. Copper's adoption fee includes crate hire, courier transport by road from Tennant Creek to Alice Springs, and a direct flight from Alice Springs to Adelaide. Copper is currently in foster care in Elliott NT.
