About Lexi
❤️❤️ LEXI'S STORY ❤️❤️
15 months ago, we began our mission to help the “Community Dogs”.
Also known as “Camp Dogs” these babies are in effect the little known “Street Dogs” of Australia.
They are usually, shy but well-adjusted dogs who learn to survive in often harsh and sometimes cruel conditions.
Born into rural communities they belong to no-one in particular and that is where they can run into real danger.
When the fires and floods come, and the remote towns are evacuated sadly the animals are not a priority.
The lucky ones may be moved to neighbouring towns pounds if there is one... if it is safe …and if they have room.
The Unlucky ones will be left or shot... More humane than being left to burn or drown.
Unless Rescue comes 🙏
So, in November 2018 we promised we would come and despite the huge costs involved with evacuation and vet work we have kept that promise.
Over the last 15 months we have saved a number of these “forgotten” dogs and given them a future they could never have imagined.
Every time we hope and pray that the adjustment will be straightforward and usually it is.
But then along came Lexi.😥
Granted these dogs are usually underweight, shy and in need of medical attention.
But Lexi's life had clearly been very different from the others – Lexi was not just thin, she was skin and bone.
More worrying, she was frozen, literally frozen with fear.💔
This was one of the most frightened dogs we have ever encountered.
Once her foster mum got her home, she sat statue like on the couch for hours, even wetting herself and not moving.
Then she found “under the bed” which became her home.
For weeks she was fed in her safe place ... only her foster brother Boz could get any reaction from her. He became her lifeline to the world outside that dark but safe place.
Boz slowly, slowly introduced her to his world but it has taken months of work from Boz and his beautiful family to show you the Lexi you see today.
She really has blossomed into a beautiful, loving, young lady.
Lexi has had lots of training and just loves to learn and please (especially with the help of a treat or two).
She has finally learnt that leads are good and will happily trot along with the family on walks and beach runs .. she is a bit of a lazy bones though and sometimes decided not to walk anymore 😊
She still like to sleep “under the bed” but will sneak out in the morning for lazy morning cuddles.
Lexi has come a long long way but whatever trauma she experienced is deep and entrenched.
Her anxiety and fear mean she will need a very special and dedicated family to help her continue towards happy forever.
Lexi is afraid of strangers and may well growl when she first meets people and run and hide, although this is not guaranteed.
Unexpected movements towards her may cause her to nip (not bite – nip) – this has happened only twice since she came into care and she has been having ongoing training to help her overcome this. It seems to have subsided, but we can never say never so we will need to discuss this with a potential adopter.
We would love to find Lexi a relaxed and loving home where she can continue to grow in confidence.
A gentle doggy playmate would be awesome, but we would maybe say no young children as loud noise and fast movements really can make her anxious.
Lexi is medium sized ( approx. 25kg), she is a Ridgeback x and is 2 years old at most.
She has had all her vetwork completed and her adoption cost is $395.
Lexi is located on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
If you are interested in meeting Lexi please send us a message.
And as always Please, please take a second to hit share.
