About Sage ~ Poodle x ACD pup ~ On Trial 20/3/20
Introducing Sage, a 14 week old female Cattle dog x Pomeranian x Poodle puppy. Sage is an incredibly smart pup who excelled at puppy school - she “sits” and “lays down” and “waits” for a treat . She is a cuddly and mischievous princess who laps up attention and will at times be quite the diva.
Sage is an adorable, curious and active girl who gets super excited during play and during those times it can be hard to find her off-switch. She definitely requires a home with an active adult male dog (2 years plus) who loves to play and who can be a great role model for her (as well as teaching her some puppy boundaries). She is not suitable as a single dog. Due to her current small size she can be overwhelmed by large and boisterous dogs so continued socialisation with gentle and friendly dogs will help her to grow into a confident and well-rounded adult.
Sage loves a daily walk and to be included in outdoor adventures with her new family. Being such a smart pup she likes to be mentally stimulated however she can be overstimulated by lots of strangers wanting to pat her (she is adorably cute!) which can result in her mouthing hard and working herself up into a tiz. Although she loves being the centre of attention it is also too overwhelming for her, so we are looking for an experienced home where controlled interactions and training on impulse control will be a long term focus .
Although Sage does like kids she requires a home without kids or teens. Any interactions with visiting children or children whilst out will need to be positively managed to ensure she doesn’t get overstimulated or get too rough and nip /growl. She is highly affectionate but at times doesn’t like being picked up - if you show her your intent to pick her up and give her a treat she is more tolerant of being picked up. Typical of her breed mix she will nip at heels (especially with running kids) so will need training to manage that. Sage won’t suit young or first time dog owners - she requires an experienced owner who can get on top of some of her current behaviours to ensure she grows into a beautiful and social adult. If your human kids have left the nest then she may be a good match for you.
Sage loves water - she will paddle in her water bowl and play with water from the tap on a hot day. If you live near a lake she’d love to go for a paddle in the shallows as she gets older. She requires a grassy yard to play in (she loves a game of soccer) and good fencing to suit a medium sized dog . Sage sleeps inside in a puppy pen and she sleeps through the night beautifully. She is doing quite well with her toilet training but like all pups she will still need to be reminded to go outside so that she doesn’t have accidents.
