Hey friends, my name is Skittles. I am a happy, fun loving lad hoping to find my new furever home! I was abandoned on the street when my owners had enough of me. Their words to the guy who found me?- 'you can keep him'. Their loss, I'm an amazing dog who deserved much better than them! Because we aren't sure of my breeding, the vet has had to guess based off my face and build, and we have landed at bull terrier x arab. At approx 10months old, I am 27kg and shouldn't grow much more, if at all. I come just above the knee on my 170cm tall foster mum.
Since coming into care, I have been a breeze to care for. While it is possible I experienced some 'rough hands' in my prior home, I have only got love and patience for those around me. If for eg you have a rake or shoe in your hand, I will get a bit nervous and back away from you. This, coupled with the fact my carers didn't care at all for me, and had done NO vet work implies maybe I have reason to fear those things... However with each passing day I am learning to trust my loving foster parents, and I am feeling more and more safe and confident. Things like fireworks and storms don't worry me one bit- I am not a nervous dog, I just have a few things that I have learned to fear from my past. Will you help me continue to unlearn this by giving me a loving and safe environment?
I am an outside dog and sleep on the patio at night with my foster brothers. I love to hang out in the yard and play with toys and the other dogs. My foster parents work up to 8hrs a day so I am used to entertaining myself. I live behind a 5ft fence and show no desire to escape. I love going to off leash parks for a run and to play with other doggos! I have medium energy levels so love to be able to run, sniff and play. I am a very friendly and happy boy, although leashes worry me, so my carers are working on walks and confidence building. I sit quietly in the car, but need a bit of a push to actually get in and out - I haven't got that part down pat yet.
My favourite game is tug-of-war and I will bring you the rope as a hint when I want to play. I have great recall, and know sit, shake, outside, and stay. I have lived with a cat before, but she didn't like me very much so now I am unsure how I feel about cats... if you have a cat, maybe ask OTC if there is any update on my cat social skills? They will test me further in time.
My ideal home has another dog/s for company, a nice shaded area I can hang out in during the day, will take me out a few times a week to run, and will love me and my enormous ears to bits. In return, you'll get never ending loyalty, companionship and FUN. I am a jolly, sweet boy who really deserves for someone to put me first for once. Could that special person be you?
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $75 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox. (www.facebook.com/offthechaink9)
