Lovely Farley was horrendously let down by his previous owners and almost succumbed to the neglect he suffered. Upon rescue, he received lifesaving medical treatment to treat his wounds as well as rid him of the maggots, cockroaches, massive lipomas, cysts and multiple infections that covered his little body, inside and out. He soldiered through his extensive rehabilitation and is now ready to enjoy the happy retirement he so truly deserves.
Understandably, given the trauma Farley has lived through, he can be a little reserved but is learning to trust again and actively seeks affection once he knows he is safe. A quiet home with someone home most of the time would be ideal so he can relax and soak up the love and attention previously denied. Farley will bond with his person strongly (his eyes really light up when he sees his favourite person); he will be their shadow and will sleep next to his person’s bed at night. He interacts well with dogs of all sizes and a home with another quiet, non-dominate dog would be ideal. We don’t know how Farley would react to cats or pocket pets but finds chickens very exciting.
Due to the neglect he suffered, Farley will need ongoing care for the rest of his life: daily eye drops for lubrication and weekly ear cleaning is a must. He has a persistent cough which is currently being treated but this may be a lifelong ailment. A single storey home with easy access to the garden is essential as stairs and jumping up on furniture are a no-go due to his arthritis. Farley currently uses dog ramps (not dog stairs) to get on and off furniture and we strongly recommend his new home also invests in dog ramps so he can safely and painlessly continue to enjoy couches and snuggling with his person. He can use a doggy door but is still working on his house training so his new person must be understanding and realise that accidents (toileting inside) happen – especially when you are elderly.
Farley also MUST be groomed regularly so he never ends up in the horrific matted state he was when rescued.
Farley has been through hell and back. His story was shared and followed by so many people and we know there will be many wonderful people wanting to offer him a loving forever home. Our obligation to Farley is to find the home PERFECT for him – a home that suits all of his needs. It is the least we can do to make up for how his previous people let him down so badly. We are expecting numerous adoption applications, many from lovely, good homes, but can only consider those that would be PERFECT for Farley’s needs. Thank you for understanding
