I've been adopted!
About Ruben
Hi I’m Ruben, but you can call me the boss of the backyard! I’m a lovable, friendly, adventurous boofhead who, like all good doggos, is obsessed with all things food and belly rubs. I didn’t have a great start, being found as a wandering stray with my best friend and brother from another mother Reece. It took a few weeks before I felt game enough to visit a nice lady’s yard and have some food and a pat. Reece took even longer because he is a scaredy pants and I always have to suss things out first. Anywayyyy, she took us in and called OTC - and since then life been far better than wandering through the bush by ourselves and being pretty scared! I’m still a bit shy around new people and vet trips (sometimes I will freeze a little and drop on my belly) but luckily I’m the tough, more curious one out of the two of us so it didn’t take me long to settle in - and someone’s gotta protect Reecey boy and show him the ropes of real dog life!!
I’m currently living the dream at my foster parents place, and guys it is soooo amazing! Here are a few highlights:
- Biscuits, bones, pigs ears, and just ALL THE TREATS!
- Learning how to use a shell pool ... previously I was a bit scared of water but now I love an all over mud bath
- Bobbing for ice cubes on a hot day and blowing bubbles
- Swinging in the hammock with my human friends, or having a sneaky sit on their laps for a pat
- Adventures on the lead! My foster parents think I’ve never tried alead before, and they could be right because it was a little weird at first but now I absolutely LOVE IT; the smells, the other people, the doggie friends... this is living Larry! Apparently I am getting very good at it too.
Commands I know are sitting and waiting for food, I take treats gently, I’m learning how to shake (aka I hover my paw around whenever I see a dericious schnack), I behave when having baths (though I've got to say that I don’t love them), and I will stay outside when told. I still need to hang out with more different sizes dogs and cats to how I go, but so far so good!
I could go on but I think I’ll go for a nap instead; plus I need to keep an eye on that Reece before he steals the rope toy again, sigh.
So, nice to meet you, and if you have a room spare at your place for a chilled out, happy dude like me, let me know (especially if Reece can come too!!).
Ruben x
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $75 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox. (www.facebook.com/offthechaink9)
