About Jilly. Melbourne
Jilly is an absolute love bug, but she’s had a tough start, which means she needs a family who are committed to another 6 to 12 months of consistent training with her.
When Jilly was first adopted, she went into a home where her emerging behaviours were not managed and Gumtree Greys brought her back into foster care. Jilly has now been in a foster home for two months and has blossomed in many ways…
She LOVES a walk, anytime, anywhere (unless it’s raining and she’s not keen… who is?) and she’s totally toilet trained. Like many greyhounds she’s a massive fan of sleeping and will snooze the day away after a good walk. She is totally fine left on her own 9 to 5, which means she could live with someone who works all day. Routine is key for Jilly.
Jilly is crazy for food so needs consistent rules about when she can and cannot have food, she will sneak any type of food or bag of food if left alone with it.
She has guarding issues with her bed, food, water, toys, which needs close management and ideally she should be the only dog in the house.
When out walking she can get distracted by loud noises like motorbikes and needs distraction. She’s fine with other dogs on leads and those she sees in a garden or a house but if dogs off lead approach her, she can find this intimidating and may growl, so will need distraction
In summary , Jilly is a work in progress and still needs love, support and training. She is a very sweet, affectionate girl and here’s how her foster carer describes her:
“ Jilly is a very sweet girl who can be super cheeky at times. She's very interested in the world around her but needs some time to get used to new people in her home environment. She absolutely LOVES a cuddle, a back scratch and a belly rub, preferably for as long as possible! She has the cutest and softest little ears that often fold neatly together. I call them her "origami ears". I love the way she's always up for a cuddle or pat. If I’m sitting she will come over and put her head on my knee. If I'm standing she just glues her head to my leg until she gets a pat. I also love that she is a great chatterer, especially in the morning.”
Jilly would suit a home with no kids, no cats and no other dogs. She would be great in a home with someone who works 9 to 5 as she’s totally fine on her own all day. Gumtree grey will also provide continued support with professional training to ensure Jilly continue s to blossom.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
