About Jax
Jax is a sweet affectionate little character, once he knows you, who loves going for big walks, cuddles, tennis balls, his toy chicken, gardening, all things food, and showing food appreciation with a very bizarre little burp after a gulping down a delicious meal or treat.
He was surrendered due to his owner's terminal illness so he is dealing with some stranger anxiety issues and will not respond well to strangers attempting to pat him, nor does he enjoy being on his own for long periods of time. He is, however, responding well to medication, clear boundaries, daily exercise, and training and has started making gradual improvements since been in care. His love of food makes him very responsive to training and he is very good at respecting clear house rules that have been set out for him. He eats all his meals and sleeps in his crate overnight with the door open at this stage and it seems he would adapt well to continued crate training. Jax is currently living with another small dog about half of his size who he enjoys the company of and is learning to share attention with. He would also love an owner who he has all to himself if they are around more often then not. He may take a couple of hours to warm to you so might not come across as the friendliest of dogs on first meeting but once he knows he can trust you he bonds quickly turns into is a big softly and adores all things you.
He would be suited to a home that:
- has a small dog or household with someone home more often than not/ part-time workers. probably no big dogs unless they are very chill.- can help him build confidence, and patiently provide him with clear rules and guidance to overcome his mistrust of strangers and separation anxiety- is a calm adult only household. Jax hasn't been tested with cats but does react to them on the tv so possibly not a good match.
Medical notes
Jax is currently on 15 mg of Lovan per day to help with his anxiety. And 100 mcg of Catapres twice a day currently to help with his anxiety
