About Honey ~ 6 yr Red Heeler
Introducing our special needs girl Honey, a 6 year old Red Heeler who came to us with her sisters Bebe and Evie. Honey is very timid - she’s not the sort of dog who will approach new people but if you have a bucket load of time and patience you just may be that special someone who wins Honey’s heart.
We are looking for a loving person who will commit to coming and meeting Honey multiple times prior to considering adoption - a special person who sees Honey’s need to gain trust as their primary goal. When meeting new people Honey will sit as far away from them as space will allow
- if you approach her she will move herself to another part of the room or yard. She does love tiny pieces of cabanosi so if you wait for long enough she just may allow you to give her a tasty treat - you do need to earn this right though!
Honey has learnt to trust her foster dad and a few regular female visitors so we know she’s got the potential to form loving connections with people. With these few people she will go to them for pats and be quite affectionate. We feel that living in a home with more than one or two people will be too much for Honey. We are preferably looking for a single person who is keen to be Honey’s saviour and new lifelong best friend . Alternatively it’s possible she would suit a couple as long as both of you will commit to the time needed to win over Honey’s affections. Please no applications from young adults or families with kids.
Honey is in foster care with multiple dogs at her foster carers property. She is fine with other dogs but can be a little bossy with her sisters at times. She doesn’t mind the sound of her own voice - barking with the other dogs when visitors arrive or if she’s nervous. We would prefer her to be adopted to a home with another medium sized, friendly dog - however if you are highly experienced with scared dogs then another dog may not be a necessity.
Honey is overweight as she finds leaving the property too overwhelming. Her new human should include teaching her to walk on lead as part of her rehabilitation - as often timid dogs thrive on the mental stimulation and scents that a walk can provide. This is where an existing confident dog could help show Honey that walks are fun. Her new person should preferably live in a quiet street or neighbourhood to help ease her into daily walks.
Due to her plumpness she’s not a fence jumper nor is she your typical energetic Red Heeler. She’s low maintenance energy-wise, so she may suit a small yard as long as she has a safe, quiet place to retire to when you have visitors.
Honey is a very special girl who is looking for her place in the world. If you feel that you can offer her a patient and loving home then please email us at rescuepooch75@gmail.com . Honey is in foster care near Medowie, NSW (north of Newcastle).
Honey’s adoption fee is $250 and includes her desexing, vaccination, microchipping, flea and worm treatments. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
