About Louis ~ Beagle x Cavalier, 20 mos (deposit 26/11/1
Louis is a 20-month-old Beagle x Cavalier King Charles Spaniel ("Beaglier"). He has the size and energy of a beagle and the affectionate nature of a Cavalier. He is a happy, active young boy who needs exercise and lots of time with people. His current routine is to have a 40-minute walk in the morning which sets him up to nap most of the day. He wakes up in the afternoon ready for another walk of approximately 20 to 30 minutes, dinner and some play time and cuddles with his family.
Louis loves to chase a ball but doesn't give it back 😊. He likes toys, especially food dispensing toys and these can keep him happy and busy for quite a while. He enjoys training and responds well to positive reinforcement and consistency. He has had a few private lessons with a dog trainer and can sit, stay and lie down when asked and usually comes when called. He walks nicely on lead until he sees another dog then pulls towards them because he wants to go play with them.
Louis adores other dogs and needs opportunities to play with them. He would be fine being an only dog or living with another playful, friendly dog.
Louis will dig if he's bored or to bury a bone, so it's best to provide him with his own place to dig such as a sand pit. He needs very good fences with solid material underneath, not soft soil. He is not a nuisance barker, but you can expect some barking during the first week or so in his new home until he settles in.
He loves children, but he is so happy to meet people that he jumps on them so he could accidentally knock them over or scratch them, so not suitable to live with children under 12 or adults over 65, but he's fine when they visit. If you ask him to "sit" instead of jumping then quickly give him a little treat while he has four paws on the floor, and do this consistently, then you will see the jumping diminish. Louis isn't suitable for cats or pocket pets.
Louis is fully housetrained. Currently he sleeps on a sofa in the family room at night. He needs to sleep inside. He's ok to be outside when no one is home but needs to be welcome inside when people are home. He needs a grassy garden, so he's not suitable to apartments or small courtyards. He is a medium sized dog, approximately the size of a beagle, and weighs 19kgs. His birthday is 3/3/18.
Louis has had one owner all his life and he has always been very well cared for and loved. He is a happy and healthy little man. Louis' owner is sad that she can no longer look after him due to her health so Dog Rescue Newcastle is looking for a loving home for him.
