About Bertie ~ Kelpie (on trial 10-11-19)
Meet Bertie! This young, 10 month purebred working Kelpie has come in from drought ravaged Cobar. He was bought from a working line of Kelpies so if you are on an acreage with some cattle or sheep he may be handy! His owner could not keep four dogs in a rental property and very sadly decided to give Bertie the best chance in Life.
This stunning black and yan boy is an absolute lover and just asks "what do you want me to do?". He has begun herding training so if you are interested in joining a herding club which is very popular now you would have a head start. He would also excel at agility, obedience or flyball. I say this because I competed in these sports for twenty years and I know a good dog when I see one. If not, if you are an active family who walks each day or runs Bertie will be happy to come with you but will then lie around as most working dogs do during the day. As a Delta trainer I am working with him and he is so quick to learn that I believe that he will be well on the way to being totally laid back by the time you have him in your home.
At the moment we are desensitizing to a Halti and we will then practice loose leash walking. Bertie comes back and sits as a herding dog would beside you, he is learning to wait for food and jumping out of the car so life is very busy for this lovely boy.
Bertie is very clean, no marking on furniture etc, he is coming back on the turn of a sixpence and just needs love and activity.
He loves children and adults. I have three young boys here in my house and he is very happy to cuddle up with them.
