Hi everyone!
My name is Jax. I was surrendered to OTC because my owners couldn't keep me any longer. I need a few park sessions or walks a week to be happy, and they couldn't offer me that. OTC and my owner decided I needed a new family where I could be exercised and trained, and so arrangements were made for me to be surrendered to OTC. It's what was best for me.
Since coming into care, I have had my vaccinations and desexing done, and have been nothing but a dream to care for. I live with 3 other adult dogs and absolutely love their company. I learn a lot from the other dogs. Sometimes the big and confident dogs make me a bit nervous, but I just stay out of their road until I know where I stand with them. I really enjoy play time with other dogs, and we just hang out in the yard while my carer is at work (she works 50hrs+ a week).
I currently sleep outside at night, on the deck with the other dogs. I am starting to learn some manners, and have medium energy levels. I am food orientated and eager to please, so have learned my basic commands very quickly. A few minutes of training a day and I am quickly becoming a really placid, easy dog to care for. I sit well in the car, behave well at the vet, and am generally a fairly quiet dog. I only bark when there is someone at the gate. Since coming into care, I have met a few human children, and was gentle and quiet around them. If the kids don't jump on me and respect my space, I stay very calm but if they start throwing things at me or grabbing me, I will get nervous and hyper. Which is fair enough, I think!
I haven't yet seen water/pools, so I am not sure if I will be a swimmer or not. My carer hopes to introduce me to this soon. I have met cats through the screen door, and seem like I will be cat friendly, however I have not yet been tested properly. My dad was a mastiff, and my mum was a shepherd x kelpie. I will reach around 25-30kg as an adult. I would suit a normal family, who needs a placid, easy doggo to be part of their family. I will take normal amounts of socialisation and exercise - just 3 outings a week is all it will take for me to be easy and happy! My favourite games are tug o war, chasing balls, and wrestling with other dogs. I am currently behind a 4ft fence, and showing no signs of wanting to escape.
Can you offer me a forever home? I really want a family who will stick it out with me and show me the world. I have so much love to give, and really can't wait until my new family arrives for me. Please apply to meet me soon.... I am a good doggo and won't last in care long!
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $75 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox. (www.facebook.com/offthechaink9)
