About Scout
Like Scooby Doo's nephew, Scout is an energetic and playful puppy looking for a family of his own.
He is currently in foster care with two children and two cats. He gets along well with the children and respects the cats as he understands he's at the bottom of their hierarchy! He is currently teething and play bites, as puppies do, so will need a family willing to teach him the appropriate way to manage itchy teeth!
He is not a cuddly type dog, but loves attention and being stroked as he falls asleep. Soft toys and socks are his favourite - he will happily race over to grab them, taking his finds to a corner to play. He also enjoys following his family around to see what's going on, participating in general family life.
Scout would suit a family who will involve him in their lives. He is not a clingy dog and is currently left alone during the day whilst his foster family work. Hence he would be fine with full time workers. He would love some older children to call his own to keep him entertained, helping him with his training and development. He is not destructive and happily sleeps during the day when left alone.
He is an intelligent boy who is food motivated, so will be very easy to train. He is learning basic obedience and already knows 'sit'. As a playful puppy, he will need a family willing to invest the time into continuing his training and daily exercise to keep his mind and body active and healthy.
Want to know more about how you teach a pup to be a great dog? I'd like to do training every day so that I learn the commands of sit, stay, come, down, no, stop and leave it. And once I've learnt them, I need to keep practicing them every day too. That way I'll learn to obey what you tell me to do. Being consistent and clear with your boundaries will mean I always know the right way to behave. Getting out to exercise at least once a day (and twice for working dog breeds) is vital to stimulate my brain and body. It creates important opportunities for me to meet strangers, other dogs and other animals, plus it tires me out! Tell me ""no"" if I'm chewing something I shouldn't and give me a chew toy instead. I'd love to have a range of chew toys that you can swap around so I don't get bored with them.
It's always hard to know with rescue pups and mixed breed pups exactly how big they'll grow to, so SAFE estimates our eventual size. They're pretty good at it!
I CAN FLY TO PERTH!
Flying for a few hours is very important for animals in remote locations, because it gives us the opportunity to be adopted. Talk to SAFE about flying me to you in Perth for around $150 airfare.
