Hi everyone!
My name is Sydney, but my foster mum calls me her little brown bear. I am very lucky to be here. My owner had abandoned me in the council pound and I was kill-listed... it was a really terrifying experience for me. Thankfully, OTC stepped up and saved me and a heap of my other pound friends! And now, I'm never looking back. Nobody knows why I was abandoned...like so many thousands of dogs in my state each year, it probably was not at all to do with me, but just the seemingly disposable mentality of some of our community. Their loss- I am wonderful!
My exact breed mix is unknown, but we think kelpie x wolfhound. I have a medium energy level and am medium size. I was extremely shy when I arrived into care but my confidence is growing. I still get startled sometimes by loud noises or quick movements but I'm learning who I can trust. I have learnt to sit and wait, and I know my name. I will come when called and like to please my humans. I was initially frightened of other dogs but I now love my two fur foster brothers. I am friendly with cats but I do like to chase them so it's best that our play time is supervised. I love human kids, and they love me. I love toys which is really great for my foster carers to see, because I didn't understand them or know what they were when I joined OTC!! My temporary family is loving seeing me learn how to play and be a dog.
I am happy at home alone during the day because I have two doggy friends to hang out with. We spend our days on the grass or the deck. I'm polite in the house, but also happy to sleep in the carport or outdoor area. I love to snuggle my humans, and play with my rope toys. Food makes me excited- but I won't over indulge... good treats is the way to my heart. I have an awesome smile and I love to follow the humans around. My favourite place to sit is on the back of the ute and to watch the happenings in the neighbourhood from up there.
I currently live behind a mesh fence approx 1.5m high. While I could easily jump it, I never have- I know where my safe place is! My ideal home has another dog/s for company, and if you have cats we must be kept separate unless being directly supervised (no 'outdoor'/roaming cats). I am used to carers that are away from the house for long periods during the day, and would love to be taken on walks a few times a week. I might not be the best option for dog parks as I do get quite scared in noisy, busy situations so it won't be very fun for me. At least until I know you are here for me, I'd just prefer to walk or jog with you. It will be a good bonding exercise and as much stimulation as I need. I just want someone to he gentle with me and care for me, and and I will do the same back.
So what do you think? Am I the missing piece in your family?
Medical notes
Healthy! 2 x vaccinations, desexed, microchipped, worm/heartworm and tick/flea up to date.

Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic in your area and OTC will cover any treatment needed.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox.
