About Chester
Hey, I haven’t met you, so this sounds crazy, my name is Chester… adopt me, maybe? I am a super handsome almost 4 yr old Beaglier who found his way in to the foster care system due to my family being incompatible with me. So, here I am looking for a new place to call home!
My owners explained to Aunty Lisa that I was anxious around strangers especially young children due to their unpredictable movements & yes, I admit… it takes a bit for me to warm up to the big humans, I can be a little vocal about my concerns whilst backing away… about 5-10 mins later we are snuggling on the couch with popcorn & Netflix! Aunty Lisa, Aunty Allison & Aunty Amanda have not seen any anxiety with the small humans & has been helping by exposing me to human of all shapes & sizes in loads of different situations & environments, they are showing me loads of confidence & giving me patience. I overheard them talking about it possibly being a misunderstanding of my owners & their own fears transferring on to me & that I would also become anxious, I just need exposure & socialisation strategies with a confident & understanding family to help me in the words of Elsa from Frozen… Let it go!
So, a little bit about me… my hobbies include, sniffing, food, playing, sleeping & eating.. Surprised? No, you shouldn’t be as I am part Beagle after all, but don’t let that put you off… the good parts are Cavalier, like snuggles, my favourite toys are fluffy ones…I love to snuggle them and not destroy them, have them thrown & a little wrestle with them..& my playful nature as I love playing at the doggy park. I enjoy long walks, short walks & walks to anywhere with you… but again don’t be surprised if I pull you here & there & over there & back here for that sniffy, wiffy smell! My other likes are chasing balls, toys with squeakers… I am a little obsessed with them, all toys are mine, I collect them in my bed, plus I also love chilling on the couch & have a fascination for cow hooves & goat horns…
I was definitely a spoilt fur member at my original home, so I & BRQ would prefer a home where I can be the same spoilt fur member I have become accustomed to be. I love my inside time, as much as I love my outside time… nice big backyard with loads of sniffing & wandering around, Maggie & Moose taught me how to treasure hunt in the backyard, I LOVE that game now. I like to know what is happening around the place, I also love my hooman time, couch time, comfy bed time, I’m a true homebody, who prefers to Netflix & chill over nights out on the town… I am toilet & house trained & just love being around you. I would love a furry sibling of the canine variety to play with, but I am also happy being centre of attention with my humans, as long as I am loved up & we go on adventures together! Love road trips, I sit perfectly in the back seat with my seatbelt on! I have come from a home with a cat, and Aunty Lisa has a cat too… I wuv to lick their faces & they love me back with a claw or two!
As I am male, I do have a few bad habits, one of them being… things with wheels (scooters, bikes, skateboards etc) what is with those hoodlums on wheels, I let them know quite loudly that they should be using their perfectly good paws to run and walk on! Also bike bells, but who loves a bike bell dinging in your ear?
My other habit I need to work on as I am feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment esp as I have just come into care and visiting a few of the wonderful foster carers for assessments etc. when it comes to noises that I am not familiar with, I get a little vocal trying to find out what that noise is & should I be concerned with it. So, I need my new forever family to be patient, confident, understanding & of course loving to allow me to dump the baggage I have & be free to be the champion I know I am
Will you be my furever hooman? besides my good looks, my charm…. I don’t dig, chewing is just for those yummy treats you will give me or those cow/goat and deer thingy's
Adoption details
All of our Beagles & crosses will be vet checked & vetted prior to adoption. They'll be desexed, vaccinated, Heartworm tested, and preventatives started, Flea/worm & tick preventatives up to date, & any other medical needs completed/controlled with medication. We place a post on Facebook & on the website advertising each dog giving their full description and requirements. BRQ accepts applications until a date provided to our supporters This is always mentioned on Facebook, our website and our emails when applications are sent this way. The committee reads each one, choosing the best 1, 2, or 3 applications (depending the number of applications we receive) that suit each individual dog’s needs, personalities and developmental/health.
The Coordinator will organise the meet & greets between the foster parent who has the hound in care & the successful applicants (at times the Foster Coordinator will also attend). These take place in mutually agreed dog parks. We will ask that all family members & any other hounds you have already accompany you on the meet & greet. For families who are interstate or in regional QLD, meet/greets, yard/fence checks will be completed by one of our foster carers in the area, via Skype, or we may ask you to provide photos/videos of your fences, yard & house/yard where your Beagle/Hound will be allowed & spend most of its time. If the family is needing transport via plane or other means, this will be a case by case discussion between committee and adopting family, and all fees covered by the adopting family. BRQ can assist you to obtain a quote for this (Just know that all modes of transport will be scheduled based on the weather. For example, if the temperature is high that day, flights will be early morning or night).
If successful with the meet & greet, the coordinator will organise to do the yard & fence checks. This is done to check that the fences & yard are both safe & is secure enough that no Beagle can escape. Any potential problems that may need fixing can be brought to the attention of the potential adopting family. No trial weekend will take place until problems have been fixed. The foster coordinator choose & contact the most suitable family for the particular dog they are applying for based on the meet/greet & yard/fence check & the needs of the dog. Whilst we allow the foster family to say goodbye to their foster dog, we ask for the adoption fee to be deposited and cleared in our bank account before any animal is released. We do not take cash payments, we give out our bank details & depending on who you bank with can take up to 48 hours to be processed. Trial period of up to 12 days is then organised, this time helps both you, your family, the foster dog and other pets become familiar with each other & see if it all works between you all. Whilst on trial, the coordinator will call a few times during, & you are quite welcome to send us messages or call to ask questions or if there are any concerns etc. Please know you are covered by the trial period, if anything happens or there are issues, we ask to be contacted immediately. We can arrange vet care or any other requirements during this time. We can also help with training tips or strategies to assist your new family member to settle in their new home, also with dietary & behavioural training during this time.
If after the trial ends you have decided to continue with the adoption of your Beagle/Hound or cross, we will send you out your adoption pack. The pack includes De-sexing certificate or proof of de-sexing paperwork, Microchip ownership change over, Vaccination certificates. Adoption certificate, Adoption Information, Receipt of payment, Worming, Heartworm and Flea/Tick dates. With puppies, you receive a puppy pack. Life time guarantee of advice, training & support. If for any reason the trial doesn’t work & the dog is returned to BRQ, the adopting family is refunded the fee minus an admin fee of $50.
