About Summer ~ 6yo Border Collie ~ On Trial 26/11/2019
Summer is a beautiful, 6 year old, blonde and white, short-hair Border Collie. Summer is a gentle and sweet natured girl with large dark eyes that draw you in and then melt your heart.
Summer is a very shy girl who previously hasn't had much experience of the world beyond her yard. We are looking for a patient and loving person/family used to timid dogs, who will take time to help her learn the ways of the world. She needs understanding and a slow, positive introduction to new experiences. With love and care her new family will be rewarded with the most loyal and loving best friend.
Summer would like nothing better than to be by your side in the house most of the day. Once she has bonded with you she will look to you for direction, will follow you around the house and ask politely for pats. She has lovely indoor manners - she will settle on the couch or a comfy dog-bed to watch you potter around, cook or do chores. She will lay with you and watch TV at night time - this is one girl that loves to be inside with her people .
Summer feels more comfortable around women and gentle men so she’d suit a home with an experienced, adult couple with no children. She is in foster care with young children and she is good with them, however we feel that a quiet , child-free home without kids day-to-day noise and excitement will help her relax and grow into a more confident girl. If you are semi-retired, or your own two-legged kids have left home she may be a great match for you.
Summer is in care with two adult dogs and she feels more secure having them nearby. If the dogs around her are relaxed she feels their positive vibes, therefore we feel that having a friendly, calm adult dog as a companion will help her settle in to her new home. Summer can get spooked by loud noises both inside and outside the house so being beside another calm and confident dog helps her to relax.
Summer would suit a home with someone home more often than not - when you do go out she will welcome you home with huge bum wiggles of happiness. When you have visitors, she will take herself to a cosy and safe place (like a quiet bedroom). Unlike many Border Collies she’s not highly active and will be content with a short, quiet walk each day - she doesn’t need a big yard and may even suit a small yard.
Summer is always seeking to please you and she loves high-value treats (like cabanosi) as a reward for being a good girl. Having a treat bag on hand will assist her new family with her socialisation and training. She is learning to play with toys and would love her very own treat filled toys to keep her entertained if you go out .
Summer is a very special girl who is looking for a special person (or persons) to find her place in the world. If you feel that you can offer her a safe and positive furever home then please email us at rescuepooch75@gmail.com . Summer is in foster care near Toronto, NSW 2283 (Lake Macquarie area).
Summer’s adoption fee is $250 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com
Medical notes
When Summer was desexed she had 2 mammary lumps removed (she has had puppies previously). She has ground-down teeth possibly from chewing repeatedly (perhaps on a fence or cage). She also has an occasional limp in her rear leg (possibly from an old injury) that doesn’t appear to cause her pain on a day to day basis.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to fill in our online Adoption Questionnaire:
https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt
If there is a phone number listed in the dog's profile then you can also phone for more information.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption. More details of our Adoption Procedure on our website: https://tinyurl.com/adoptproc
