About Major ~ Dutch Shepherd x (On Trial 15/9/19)
Hi, my name is Major. I am 8 months old and I am a Dutch Shepherd x. Dog Rescue Newcastle is helping his owners find him the perfect home.
I am a smart boy and I learn quickly! I do love to earn those tasty treats! I can already sit, stay, shake and spin.
I love going for walks and fetching a ball, but my most favourite of all is going adventuring off lead through some bush trails! I use a no pull harness because I’m a big boy and just love my walks! Whenever my mum calls my name or whistles I always come running because I know I'll get a yummy treat! After a big walk or play I love to just lay on my side and get all the belly rubs and head scratches! I am crate trained and love sleeping in my crate at night inside. I am also toilet trained.
When my mum is at work she always feeds me from a big Kong wobbler and gives me something tasty to chew on so I don't get up to mischief. I currently live with another large do who I get along with but I get a bit cranky if he comes near my food, so mum likes to feed us separately.
I am a bit unsure about other dogs at first, so I like to watch them play from a distance for a while until I feel comfortable and then I love to have a wrestle! I wouldn’t suit a household with a small dog. Any dog friends should be around my size. I would also be ok as an only dog as long as I get regularly socialised.
Being a young and very strong boy, I would only suit households with suit teenage kids or no kids. I have not been around cats or pocket pets.
Sometimes it's hard for me to contain my excitement when my mum comes home and I just want to jump up on her and give her all the kisses! I am looking for a home who can work on my ongoing training like teaching me not to jump up and socialising me with other dogs.
Ideally I would like a big yard so I can play, I would like to be let inside to have family time and most importantly someone to help me with ongoing training. Please remember that I am an 8 months old large pup and I still need training from my family and I will need to learn some manners and also how to be a bit more social. I do need slower introductions with other dogs and this is due to not being sure of other dogs.

(1) The first step is to fill in our online Adoption Questionnaire:
https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt
If there is a phone number listed in the dog's profile then you can also phone for more information.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption. More details of our Adoption Procedure on our website: https://tinyurl.com/adoptproc
