About Penny ~ Great Dane (on trial 31/7/19)
This very special girl is looking for a new home to make her own. Penny is a 4 and a half year old Great Dane. Dog Rescue Newcastle is helping her owners find her the perfect home.
Penny is great with commands, loyal and would never stray too far away from her family. She can sit, stay, knows down and shake. She is also toilet trained. Her favourite thing is relaxing inside on her bed in the sun. She has always been an inside lounge dog. She loves fluffy toys but ends up snuggling them more than anything else. Still loves tug and war with you.
Circumstances changed for Penny and her long term doggy friend died and due to her owners working long hours she started to suffer separation anxiety. Her vet decided to help by putting Penny on some medication to help her and she is currently on Lovan once a day. The monthly cost being around $40. We do feel once Penny has settled in her new home environment that she could be weaned off this medication BUT we would like to find her a home that someone is home more often than not.
Due to her anxiety Penny comes across nervous when out walking and if she sees another dog but once she is comfortable does settle down. She doesn’t seem to like small dogs though. Penny is quite strong on lead so will need a good walking harness. She has not been around many young children and would be best suited with older teenage children. Penny has not been introduced to cats or pocket pets.
Penny needs to go to a home willing to be understanding of her issues and work with her by using positive training. Someone who has experience with large breeds would be great.
Even though she has a few quirks (who doesn’t) she is an absolute beautiful dog that just wants to be with and around her owners.
