About Danny
QLD - Danny (M/5yrs) - Available for Adoption!
Danny is a delightful, loving and affectionate boy who has grown more confident by the hour. He loves to give and receive affection and has learned to not jump up quickly. He is very friendly towards house guests, tradies, visitors and strangers on the street. He has not shown any sign of fear or aggression.
In his short time in foster care, he has learned good manners quickly. When being fed he will sit and wait until invited to enjoy his meal. He is highly motivated by food and this could be used to help train him. He still begs and sniffs when food is served but stations himself quickly to his bed if ignored.
Danny travels in the car well and has learned to walk calmly with a halti. He enjoys visiting new places, watching birds and meeting new people and dogs. Danny sits and vocalises if he cannot fully meet another dog and will lay down and wait.
Danny initially was very stressed if he thought he was going to be locked in or outside of the house, so much so that he was nervous to go out to do his business, however this is improving daily for him as he relaxes. He can panic and barge through the doorway and would easily knock over a small child or older person due to his need to be back where you are. His separation anxiety has eased slightly, he no longer appears panicked when you change rooms and now he sometimes goes to other rooms independently but remains highly alert to your movement. He absolutely loves to sleep in his bed right next to you, and sleeps right through with his jacket and blanket on, without toilet break if any disruption.
Danny likes routine, in fact routine is really helping him relax. Twice daily walks, food at the same time everyday, family activity fairly similar, relax and couch time to end the day. Most dogs with separation anxiety do require routine and as such we think a home where you are home a lot would suit him best.
He is very social, I believe he would do well in a family with teenagers who will kick a footy around or be with a family with another dog. He may also be a great tradie dog who can go to work. He is happy to just be near you so would be good to just sit near you in the car and share your lunch.
Danny’s best home should consist of:
- continual contact with you to ease his mind
- plenty of socialising to keep up the fun in his life
- a warm bed right next to you
- an open door policy in your home, he needs to be welcome to be wherever you are
- preferably a female dog friend that he can bond with
- no cats, no kids under teenage years
