Bear

Look at that face! With some training, love and patience, Bear has the potential to be just perfect!

Handsome boy Bear came to SAFE Esperance from a pound in another town. He's a high energy boy but he's also a big softy. He adores people, and has lived with children before. He can be a bit 'pushy' with other dogs, wanting all the attention to himself, but is not aggressive. He has not been tested with cats or small animals as yet.

Bear hasn't had much experience of walking on the lead and does pull, so we feel a harness would be a better option for him, and he will need some work in this area. He knows a few commands at the moment and is an extremely bright boy who learns things easily, so we feel he would excel at agility or something similar.

He does bark in the garden when he wants attention, when excited during play, and when people pass on the footpath at the side of the house. His ideal home will have no passing foot traffic to provoke this.

Bear can dig and chew when bored and left to his own devices, so he really needs company to occupy his mind and keep him out of mischief. Providing Bear with sufficient exercise is also crucial to his good behaviour.

He will need at least 2 good walks a day to keep him happy and healthy. He loves to play tug and fetch, and loves his chew toys. He has a little quirk and taps his feet when he's excited to see you. He also loves to snuggle on the couch.

Bear's ideal home would be with another dog for play and company and with an owner who is around more often than not to shower him with the love he deserves and give him the attention he craves. He would also do well in a family with older children. He needs some input, but will quickly learn in a positive environment. He needs a home with a large, secure yard, and will need to be allowed to sleep inside at night.
