About Remy
We currently have a huge selection of great applications for Remy. Please consider one of the other amazing rescue dogs on this site, that may be getting overlooked.
Remy is a stunning, one-of-a-kind, golden English Cocker Spaniel, with the softest ears and most gorgeous expression you'll see on a dog. This boy was rescued from the pound. Abandoning him was the best thing that his owner did for him, because poor Remy was in a terrible state of neglect. He was starving, and the vets scored him at 1.5 (with 1 being the lowest weight before death). Remy was riddled with parasites, and had no training.
In true doggie style, Remy has bounced back and with care is the picture of health these days. He just loves everyone, and has so much energy he can run all day. He loves farm life, and is such a crazy, loveable guy. He wants to be everyone's friend, and is mostly seen with a goofy grin on his face, or his rope toy which he has learnt to play fetch with. Remy has fantastic recall, and is always close despite having 5 acres to call home here. He has learned to sit and wait, especially before going outside in the morning. This is big for him, as he has so much bouncy energy, that controlling his waggy bum and maintaining eye contact before the release command, takes a lot of self control ;) He is very interested in the chickens, bunnies and guinea pigs, and had probably never seen some of these animals before coming here. He is still strictly under supervision, but he is very keen to learn, and always responsive when told to back away and leave, so has never chased the other animals. He has boundless potential. He is overly dog social and still learning manners; even our alpha pack leader lets this guy get away with too much. This is because Remy acts like a puppy, so none of the dogs put him in line. However, he has gotten so much better, and although he still loves to get in their faces and tries to initiate play all the time, he is leaving the older dogs alone more often, and he knows not to touch Whinnie's bone while she's chewing on it. He is still super excited at meeting new people, and has so far to go on leash training, but it is all new and a work in progress for our Remy.
Remy would like to be part of an active household. Having been left alone for the majority of his life, he also needs someone who is there for him, and will not leave him without food for days/weeks. He wants to be a devoted companion, sharing in someone's daily activities, and not being taken for granted. A young dog in the house he can play with and that matches his energy levels would be great. He shouldn't be hard to place as he is such a wonderful, easy going, happy dog that would suit a range of lifestyles (although he really has got a taste of this farm life).
If you have come to a rescue in order to get a pure bred dog for bargain prices, we're not the shelter for you. Remy is priceless, so no fee that we charge will come close to his true worth. However, you wont get the cheap prices people have come to expect. Rescue dogs are worth every bit and more, as those that come from breeders and pet shops. Owning a rescue pet is a privilege.
