About Maddi ~ Border Collie (on trial 5/7/19)
Hi, my name is Maddi and I’m a 7 year old Border Collie who loves nothing more than attention, especially belly rubs! I recently came into care due to no fault of my own. I’m very skittish at the moment. I don’t like sudden movements or unfamiliar people coming too close to me. Small children rushing up to pat me will scare me but I warm up to them after I get to know them.
My foster parents have a furry friend who is my companion when they’re not home. He wants to play with me all the time. It was all just a little too overwhelming when I came into care but I am slowly coming out of my shell. My previous owner describes me as a very playful doggo, my friends just need to give me time to adjust.
My foster parents aren’t sure whether I’ve had a lot of inside time previously as I used to live in an outdoor pen. I’ve had very few accidents since coming into care. They take me out on toilet breaks regularly and praise me when I go “wee wee” outside. I know basic commands and my foster parents are solidifying the training I already know. I sleep in my bed next to my foster parents bed, on their bed, or in my crate.
I get scared on walks in new places. If there are lots of people around I just like to sit and watch. My mum thinks I need slow exposure to people and the outside world. I now get taken out to places where there isn’t much traffic.
I want my new parents to understand I’ll need time to adjust to a new life. If my parents work, I want a furry friend that I can play with while they’re gone to keep me from fretting. I’d be happy with someone that doesn’t work and can give me all the pats and cuddles.
