About Apollo ~ Labrador X Retriever (on trial 5/9/19)
Hi are you looking for a new friend? If you think it could be me, please keep reading. My name’s Apollo and I’m named after the Greek god for my golden coat and dashing good looks. I’m a 3 year old Labrador x Retriever and approximately 30kgs, this however doesn’t stop me from wanting to be a lap dog. I love nothing more than your company, and if you allow it, curling up next to you on the couch for cuddles and back scratches.
My ideal home is one where I’m treated as a member of the family and allowed inside when people are home. If I know you’re home, but you leave me outside by myself I will cry and sook. I don’t like being on my own at all and I can get rather anxious! I want nothing more than to be around you. I’ll help you with the cooking, cleaning and washing, I’m the perfect boyfriend! By help I do mean I’ll sit and watch you do it and follow you around the house.
I’m always happy to see you when you get home and will show my excitement by carrying a toy around and wagging my tail. Please be warned, things at tail height are sure to get knocked about. I don’t mean to knock things over, but there is no stopping my tail when I am happy! I currently sleep in either the lounge room or the bedroom, either on my bed or the floor and my new family will continue to let me sleep inside with them.
My new family will also need to be strong. Im a big boy and when im excited on a walk I can pull on the lead. I’ve been known to pull some people over who have tried to walk me due to my strength. I’m not the sort of dog that can be taken to dog parks or the beach. Too many other dogs causes me anxiety and stress and I tend to lash out at unknown dogs. I much prefer walks on roads away from other dogs.
I like to learn new things, especially if it involves treats. Since being in care I’ve learnt to wait for my dinner, as long as you don’t leave me alone with it too long, and to drop. I already knew how to sit and shake hands. My recall needs more work, but if you’re patient and persistent my foster mum has no doubt that I’ll be able to master it in no time. I LOVE chewing on bones, they will keep me entertained for hours! I also love soft toys, although you might not like the mess I make with them. It’s just so fun to send the stuffing flying everywhere. I also really love playing tug of war with you, and I get very vocal during this sort of play.
If you are home a lot I’d happily be an only dog. If you work I’d definitely need a submissive friend to play with. Preferably female, I tend to not get along as well with boys. I would also need you’re understanding that it would take me a while to warm up to any new friends. I’m not suitable for a home with birds or pocket pets and it would have to be a very special and confident cat that’s lived with dogs before for that to be successful. I like meeting new people, but I’m probably best suited for a home with older children as I might knock young ones over by accident
If you think we’d be a good match, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with my foster family! I can't wait to meet you!
