About Bowser
Hi, I'm Bowser & I’m 14 months. I have entered the big wide world of Rescue due to no fault of my own. Long story short… it was a ‘them not me kinda relationship breakup’, it’s a little personal & would prefer to not dwell on the past! I am sure you would prefer to get to know me, I know I would love to find a loving, spoiling furever home where I can be inside with my hoomans who I will be super loyal too…just ask my foster mums! As you are aware, I already have a profile but the rescue coordinator made a little boo boo & based it on my previous life in my original home. I have been surprising everyone by not being a Beagle with loads of those ‘ummm mahhh’ traits, my foster mum up north, my foster mum in Brisbane, & even when I went on trial, the family I hung out with for a little while (I came back from trial due to one member being allergic to doggies) all agree that I am doing very well & I am NOT escaping, NOT digging, NO barking, NOT scoffing my food, or chewing things I shouldn’t.. although there was the mysterious case of the exploding bed… but no proof it was me, you need to know, there are other Beagle suspects that I could name, but I won’t due to the fur code!!! SO, I get a DO OVER! My foster mummy says that I have a gorgeous nature, love snuggles, massages & love a good ear cleaning, my foster mummy says I am a weirdo, clearly she doesn’t get a decent ear cleaning…so she can’t judge till she experiences one. I do have loads of manners, but still learning that paws do not help themselves on kitchen benches or tables. I am responding well to a whistle in the yard & my name, but only when I am not too busy helping my hoomans. I forget to turn my ears on sometimes… I am a Beagle! Toilet & house training are going very well, I am loving being inside, spending time with my hoomans is the best esp. snuggling on the couch watching your favourite shows. I am still a little timid & shy around new things & people but can you blame me.. I am a little out of sorts due to being in the foster system, but my foster fur siblings are helping me learn so much! oh & you need to know that I’m enjoying taking my foster hoomans for a walk, they are learning to walk faster & not in a straight line…have faith, they will get there! (remember I am a beagle, we don’t do straight lines, & I must smell everything NOW!) Foster mummies are helping me learn to take the time and smell the roses, slowly! Let’s get real for a minute… I know what you are all thinking, yes I was accused of those beagly traits… BUT, If you didn’t want a Beagle, understand a Beagle’s cheeky traits, or have the patience to deal with us gorgeous fur things… wouldn’t you be over at the Cavalier Rescue page? So, I will admit that yes, I dig, but these days I bury my 🐓necks, or my foster mummy caught me trying to bury my 🐄hoof and 🐐horn, she quickly redirected me! Yes I dug to escape at my old house. I haven’t in my foster homes, yes I also chew things, don’t forget my age and that I’m willing to change for the right family, is it that I was bored? alone in the backyard with little human contact, not allowed inside & needing/wanting attention? (UPDATE - clearly, a change of scenery has helped curve my beagly ways…I haven’t tried to escape whilst in my foster homes… I have loads of human & furry company & things to do!) I love life, I love my hoomans.. big & small ones, I really want to be a part of the family, where I will be spoilt, loved & snuggled & I promise to be loyal & snuggle you right back! I love to play with my furry kind esp the feline ones, the Cat here is feisty…🐈 she plays with me even though she has claws that are ouchy… Once I feel comfortable, I am playful, outgoing & ready to mingle! My favourite place to mingle with furiends is the doggy park or at the beach. My favourite game is Tug of War, Fetch and chasing I would love a hooman or furry friend to play with, as it’s no fun tugging or waring on my own!
Adoption details
All of our Beagles & crosses will be vet checked & vetted prior to adoption. They'll be desexed, vaccinated, Heartworm tested, and preventatives started, Flea/worm & tick preventatives up to date, & any other medical needs completed/controlled with medication. We place a post on Facebook & on the website advertising each dog giving their full description and requirements. BRQ accepts applications until a date provided to our supporters This is always mentioned on Facebook, our website and our emails when applications are sent this way. The committee reads each one, choosing the best 1, 2, or 3 applications (depending the number of applications we receive) that suit each individual dog’s needs, personalities and developmental/health.
The Coordinator will organise the meet & greets between the foster parent who has the hound in care & the successful applicants (at times the Foster Coordinator will also attend). These take place in mutually agreed dog parks. We will ask that all family members & any other hounds you have already accompany you on the meet & greet. For families who are interstate or in regional QLD, meet/greets, yard/fence checks will be completed by one of our foster carers in the area, via Skype, or we may ask you to provide photos/videos of your fences, yard & house/yard where your Beagle/Hound will be allowed & spend most of its time. If the family is needing transport via plane or other means, this will be a case by case discussion between committee and adopting family, and all fees covered by the adopting family. BRQ can assist you to obtain a quote for this (Just know that all modes of transport will be scheduled based on the weather. For example, if the temperature is high that day, flights will be early morning or night).
If successful with the meet & greet, the coordinator will organise to do the yard & fence checks. This is done to check that the fences & yard are both safe & is secure enough that no Beagle can escape. Any potential problems that may need fixing can be brought to the attention of the potential adopting family. No trial weekend will take place until problems have been fixed. The foster coordinator choose & contact the most suitable family for the particular dog they are applying for based on the meet/greet & yard/fence check & the needs of the dog. Whilst we allow the foster family to say goodbye to their foster dog, we ask for the adoption fee to be deposited and cleared in our bank account before any animal is released. We do not take cash payments, we give out our bank details & depending on who you bank with can take up to 48 hours to be processed. Trial period of up to 12 days is then organised, this time helps both you, your family, the foster dog and other pets become familiar with each other & see if it all works between you all. Whilst on trial, the coordinator will call a few times during, & you are quite welcome to send us messages or call to ask questions or if there are any concerns etc. Please know you are covered by the trial period, if anything happens or there are issues, we ask to be contacted immediately. We can arrange vet care or any other requirements during this time. We can also help with training tips or strategies to assist your new family member to settle in their new home, also with dietary & behavioural training during this time.
If after the trial ends you have decided to continue with the adoption of your Beagle/Hound or cross, we will send you out your adoption pack. The pack includes De-sexing certificate or proof of de-sexing paperwork, Microchip ownership change over, Vaccination certificates. Adoption certificate, Adoption Information, Receipt of payment, Worming, Heartworm and Flea/Tick dates. With puppies, you receive a puppy pack. Life time guarantee of advice, training & support. If for any reason the trial doesn’t work & the dog is returned to BRQ, the adopting family is refunded the fee minus an admin fee of $50.
