About Cosmo
Cosmo is a gorgeous mix of staffy, blue heeler, and we think a bit of pointer. But unlike many cattle dogs, he much prefers lazing on the couch indoors to high energy activities. A little play session in the park or the beach a couple times a week is all he wants! He’s also a great size – he’s got the look, feel, and cuddliness of a big dog, but in reality curls up into a tiny ball (a little cashew, if you will) to fit on one cushion of the couch. Short-haired coat requires minimal maintenance.
Cosmo is incredibly gentle and sweet-natured and endears people instantly with his perpetual puppy-dog eyes and attentive little piglet ears. There’s nothing he loves more than being smothered in cuddles from his favourite humans. Well, maybe food. He will do anything for food. Would actually probably double his weight within a week if his meal planning were up to him!
Cosmo is unbelievably loyal and would likely benefit from having a couple or a family look after him so he could bond with several people who were equally responsible for his care, rather than becoming overly dependent on one individual. He becomes very attached quickly and it would be great to see him spread his love around to a larger pack! Cosmo doesn't cope with being alone, so would do best with another doggy pal or two for company. He is friendly (albeit a little awkward to begin with) and happy to share his space and his humans, and he would be much more content left at home if he had other doggy siblings to show him it’s OK – provided they are calm, easy-going dogs.
While this pup is a bit timid at first, once he comes out of his shell and settles in he has a charming personality and plenty of quirks that will crack you up. He’s clever (read: food-oriented) and has picked up some basic training quickly. Walks on a lead pretty well once he’s familiar with the area and does very well at an off-lead park/ beach – won’t stray far from his humans! Easy in the car because car = adventures with humans.
Not tested with cats: when he sees cats or possums outside he is extremely interested in them, and I don’t think he necessarily feels compelled to chase them, rather just desperately wants to sniff and figure them out. I think he could be ok with a cat in the home once he had an initial sniff and greet!
Kids: no regular exposure thus far, but the kids we have met have posed no problem! He’s rather indifferent to most strangers so he just lets people pat him until he gets bored and wanders off. His gentle nature suggests he will make a great family dog.
