About Shelby ~ Labrador X Cattle Dog (on trial 29/6/19)
This stunning beauty with the shiniest black coat and cute white “socks” is Shelby. She is a young 8 month old Labrador x Cattle Dog who currently weighs 22kg with still some more growing ahead of her. Shelby is a very affectionate girl, who just wants to be close and shower you with love.
Shelby is a very intelligent dog who over the space of one week has learnt to shake hands, sit, stay, lay down, wait for food, and has mastered toilet training. She is currently learning not to jump up on people. Shelby is very gentle when taking treats from your hand and is quite happy to share food with her foster sister. Being that she is very food orientated, she would thrive on this positive training. We always recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training.
Shelby loves car rides and will even wait patiently next to the car so she can jump in the minute you open the door! She is both calm and quiet during car trips and enjoys hanging her head out of the window or resting her head on your shoulder during journeys. This girl is quite the adventurer and gets excited over new places and experiencing new things.
Shelby is getting used to wearing a harness in both the car and for her daily walks. Shelby has fantastic recall and will stay close to her humans without a lead.
Shelby is a very healthy young dog who is in foster care with a male Cattle Dog and a female Fox Terrier. She is a very playful dog, with boundless energy and adores chasies, play wrestling and tug-o-war with the two other dogs. In her new home, Shelby will need another friendly adult dog as a teacher, companion and playmate as she would be too lonely on her own.
Shelby enjoys socialising with all dogs, both big and small and loves visiting the dog park and beach. It is important that she is able to interact regularly with new dogs and is continually socialised as she grows up.
During the day, Shelby hangs out in the sunroom and plays in the backyard with the other dogs, while her carer is at work. She is given toys and kongs to chew on during the day to avoid boredom. Shelby is not a nuisance barker and will mostly bark during playtime with the other dogs. Secure, high fencing is required to keep Shelby safe, as she will jump to follow and be with her owners.
Shelby has met lots of people and children who she is friendly and affectionate towards. Due to her tendency to jump in excitement, we recommend she be homed with children over the age of 10. She would make a wonderful family dog or a great companion for an active household. Shelby needs to be welcomed inside when people are home, and to sleep inside. She currently sleeps in her basket in her carers room or if allowed she will curl up as close as she can to her carer on the bed.
While Shelby does have a lot of energy, she has also shown she enjoys her downtime. When she isn’t playing with the other dogs, she is very attentive and likes to follow her carer as she goes about her day-to-day activities. She will happily lay her head on her carers lap or curl up next to her during movie time. If you are looking for an all-rounder in a dog who loves to play, cuddle, adventure and exercise, this girl is the one for you.
