About Benji
Put your paws š¾ together and please welcome our new friend to the hound hood⦠I will let him introduce himself and tell his story. š¶
Howl you doing? My name is Benji and I am a young 12 yr old, who happens to be a Beaglier. I have packed my bags šand leaving š”home⦠I hardly expected to be house hunting at my age, but⦠due to my hoomans working A LOT and yes ok, I may sorta, kinda have a little baggage to deal with, but who doesnāt? Maybe you can relate, I am taking my meds like a good boy. It may be a case of āitās them not meā, or is it more āitās me and not themā??? Letās not play the blame game⦠no matter what, I am entering the world of foster care and this is my last chance to find a loving forever home. So, sniffing my butt is the quickest way to my heart! Whatās yours? šā¤ļøš¶
I am a gorgeous, smoochy dog with loads of love still to give spite the grey hair. I am great with all kinds of hoomans, I am house, and toilet trained, as I am an inside doggy only⦠wherever you are, I am, like a creepy old man... šI love to āwatchā my hoomans and just be with you, no matter if itās in the office, I am happy to sleep at your feet, under the desk or at the pub/cafe, or on the couch š catching up on Stan and Netflix shows, I am up for whatever. Iām looking for someone who understands that, at some point in my life, I did time in the clink and didnāt have a lot to my nameā¦ ššŖ I am now finding it difficult with confidence, I have a fear of other dogs, and I am also dealing with separation anxiety. But with a little trust, patience you will find I am the most loyal, loving companion you will ever meet⦠I mean seriously, with my blend of the two biggest sookiest lap dogs, you will never have a cold lap, feet or heart again! š¤
Whilst gaining confidence, and learning to trust furries, gaining skills in socialization and my new environment⦠can I be the only furry in your life? Can you also be home a lot⦠maybe retired, maybe a stay at home mum, maybe work from home? In exchange, I will be the most perfect companion who has the best manners, I donāt bark excessively, I only like to chew my toys š§ø and treats, I am a quiet, natured foodie looking for the same who also loves long beagly straight (not) walks along the parks or wherever we go. I havenāt been cat tested, donāt mind the odd cow š though... possums and Ibisā are for chasing, so I am guessing cats šmight be for chasing too... unless you have one of those snarly cats that swipe back!
I walk really well on lead, I do like to sniff things though, both beagle and Cavvie do that sort of thing⦠I am great in the car, I sit perfect still in the backseat with my seat belt on⦠š like I mentioned before, total foodie⦠favourite game is my Kong and Treasure hunting for food that my owners will scatter or hide around the home... my other favourite things to is sleep, and watching what my humans are doing. I can be a little timid and shy, I donāt like thunder storms, nor do I like baths or getting my nails done... š leave it to the experts! I love a good massage though, pat me, touch me, rub my belly⦠wow that was also a little creepy, but you like it!
Please donāt judge me till you meet me, as stated beforeā¦ š¤š„°š¶š this is my last chance to find love, to find a furever home that I can retire in! Trust me, I have loads of love to give, I have loads of energy stillā¦Will you be that hooman that I call my own? Now, your turn to introduce yourself⦠so send the team a message with your email address and fill in the appropriate forms to allow me to be your number one love of your life! As usual, I come with everything done.. all my vaccinations, I will be up to date with all my heartworming, worming, flea/tick preventatives, I am already desexed, and will be vet checked etc. My adoption fee⦠there is none! Due to my age and my baggage I am seriously just looking for my last hope of a good, loving, spoiling furever home!
Medical notes
Benji has anxiety and is on medication
He also have very mild hip dysplasia
Adoption details
All of our Beagles & crosses will be vet checked & vetted prior to adoption. They'll be desexed, vaccinated, Heartworm tested, and preventatives started, Flea/worm & tick preventatives up to date, & any other medical needs completed/controlled with medication. We place a post on Facebook & on the website advertising each dog giving their full description and requirements. BRQ accepts applications until a date provided to our supporters This is always mentioned on Facebook, our website and our emails when applications are sent this way. The committee reads each one, choosing the best 1, 2, or 3 applications (depending the number of applications we receive) that suit each individual dogās needs, personalities and developmental/health.
The Coordinator will organise the meet & greets between the foster parent who has the hound in care & the successful applicants (at times the Foster Coordinator will also attend). These take place in mutually agreed dog parks. We will ask that all family members & any other hounds you have already accompany you on the meet & greet. For families who are interstate or in regional QLD, meet/greets, yard/fence checks will be completed by one of our foster carers in the area, via Skype, or we may ask you to provide photos/videos of your fences, yard & house/yard where your Beagle/Hound will be allowed & spend most of its time. If the family is needing transport via plane or other means, this will be a case by case discussion between committee and adopting family, and all fees covered by the adopting family. BRQ can assist you to obtain a quote for this (Just know that all modes of transport will be scheduled based on the weather. For example, if the temperature is high that day, flights will be early morning or night).
If successful with the meet & greet, the coordinator will organise to do the yard & fence checks. This is done to check that the fences & yard are both safe & is secure enough that no Beagle can escape. Any potential problems that may need fixing can be brought to the attention of the potential adopting family. No trial weekend will take place until problems have been fixed. The foster coordinator choose & contact the most suitable family for the particular dog they are applying for based on the meet/greet & yard/fence check & the needs of the dog. Whilst we allow the foster family to say goodbye to their foster dog, we ask for the adoption fee to be deposited and cleared in our bank account before any animal is released. We do not take cash payments, we give out our bank details & depending on who you bank with can take up to 48 hours to be processed. Trial period of up to 12 days is then organised, this time helps both you, your family, the foster dog and other pets become familiar with each other & see if it all works between you all. Whilst on trial, the coordinator will call a few times during, & you are quite welcome to send us messages or call to ask questions or if there are any concerns etc. Please know you are covered by the trial period, if anything happens or there are issues, we ask to be contacted immediately. We can arrange vet care or any other requirements during this time. We can also help with training tips or strategies to assist your new family member to settle in their new home, also with dietary & behavioural training during this time.
If after the trial ends you have decided to continue with the adoption of your Beagle/Hound or cross, we will send you out your adoption pack. The pack includes De-sexing certificate or proof of de-sexing paperwork, Microchip ownership change over, Vaccination certificates. Adoption certificate, Adoption Information, Receipt of payment, Worming, Heartworm and Flea/Tick dates. With puppies, you receive a puppy pack. Life time guarantee of advice, training & support. If for any reason the trial doesnāt work & the dog is returned to BRQ, the adopting family is refunded the fee minus an admin fee of $50.
