Schnitzel

Hi there, my name is Schnitzel. If you're after a chilled and lovable pup, I'm your man!! I'm pretty relaxed about most things - when you take me to the park I'm happy to roll over on my belly and let the other pups sniff me. I don't try to be the boss, it's easier just following! In addition to the park, I love going to the beach and playing in the water. Tug-o-war is also another of my favourite games.

As a young fella, I can get big bursts of energy and after I've had a big run around, will just flop at your feet or follow you around the house. Like all puppies, I need a family willing to invest the time in training to keep my mind busy as I have so much capacity to learn. I know 'sit' and my basic manners like waiting for meals and am eager to learn more, especially if you have nice treats!

In my foster home there is always a family member keeping me company, however I would also be ok in a home where family members work full time to earn money for my bikkies! I'm currently living with young children and sometimes nip them when I get overexcited, so will need firm leadership and guidance to continue to teach me the right way to behave. For this reason I would be best suited to a family with older children or those who have had experience training puppies.

Want to know more about how you teach a pup to be a great dog? I'd like to do training every day so that I learn the commands of sit, stay, come, down, no, stop and leave it. And once I've learnt them, I need to keep practicing them every day too. That way I'll learn to obey what you tell me to do. Being consistent and clear with your boundaries will mean I always know the right way to behave. Getting out to exercise at least once a day (and twice for working dog breeds) is vital to stimulate my brain and body. It creates important opportunities for me to meet strangers, other dogs and other animals, plus it tires me out! Tell me "no" if I'm chewing something I shouldn't and give me a chew toy instead. I'd love to have a range of chew toys that you can swap around so I don't get bored with them.

It's always hard to know with rescue pups and mixed breed pups just how big we'll grow to, so SAFE has estimated the size I'll be when I'm fully grown.
