About Mac

*Special needs boy looking for a special home*
Mac is an adoring, teddy-bear-like Cocker Spaniel who wants to be friends with absolutely everyone and is forever ready to offer cuddles!
He is always, always happy! And nothing makes him feel happier than knowing that he is loved back. He thrives on love and attention. He loves to head out for walks with his people and canine pack, or even just a one on one walk with one of his special people. With adults or teenagers to take regular walks with, he makes for an enthusiastic and energetic walking companion.
Mac is a bit of a barker and will sometimes just bark for the fun of it (don’t worry, it’s not a constant thing). However, he will also listen and obey when you let him know you don’t want him to bark. It’s just that he may start back up soon afterwards and need reminding again what you asked him not to do.
Unfortunately, there is a health issue with Mac’s eyes, one which means he will need some very special people to call his own. We have had him assessed by an eye specialist
and they have diagnosed him as having PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) effects and a cataract in one eye, whilst in the other eye he already has some early PRA issues. There is no glaucoma at present. These issues may or may not progress to the point of needing surgery to remove the eye/s but there can be no certainty either way at this time. For now, he is comfortable and is not in immediate need of intervention. However, his future family will need to be ready and able to do whatever is required to help him should it become necessary.
A quick, daily eye health check, involving a couple of very simple manual tests that literally only take a few seconds each, will be needed to ensure that his family have early warning if his eye health changes and he needs vet help. His foster carers were taught how to do these checks by his vet, and they will be able to show his new family how to do them too.
Mac is very competent at navigating his own spaces. And he is remarkably good at navigating new spaces when it is light. Night time is harder for him and he is somewhat reliant on his people for safe guidance if he is navigating a new space in the dark. Due to the possibility that he may lose some or all his eyesight at some point.Mac will need to have a calm, desexed canine companion in his new home to give him.company and confidence when his people aren't home.
This deeply devoted doggie always wants to be where his people are so a home where he has human company majority of the time will he needed, he is great around kids, and will also be friends any resident cats and dogs. He has also proved himself to be trustworthy around free ranging chickens. He does however find rabbits and guinea pigs far too much fun and would be best in a home with no small pets.
Mac is toilet trained, reluctantly crate trained, and loves his own personal Teddy Bear!"
If you think you may be able to provide Mac with a loving forever home, please get in touch.
Mac is located in Ballarat.
Medical notes
Mac has a cataract in one eye and Progressive Retinal Atrophy in both, as mentioned in his profile. Please read his profile before enquiring.

Adoption details
If you think one of our animals would be a good match for your home please email us and we will be in touch shortly after. We all work fulltime, have families and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require any other dogs in your home meeting our foster animal before they head home with you. This enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care, this is a condition of our Adoptions.
