Chewie is a funny character who loves a trip to the beach and a ride in the car so ideally would be able to get out and about with his new family.
Chewie is best behaved for a confident handler, and has good recall and walks well on the lead. He loves to sniff so a regular sniffing walk is a favourite activity. And he loves the water, any water, he's a water dog. He enjoys socialising with other dogs and when out and about, will play and convince everyone else to play too! Chewie is fine with most calm cats and is good around horses and chickens.
The ideal home for Chewie would have another dog and people who are around home most of the time. He doesn't like to be left on his own and would prefer a family who can manage his anxiety about being left at home alone.
He is well behaved indoors and is happy laying around watching the goings on of a busy house. Like any companion animal, Chewie wants to be part of the action and included in activities. We are only looking for a home where Chewie can sleep inside and be close to his family. He also needs secure fencing as he will go looking for his family if left alone.
Unfortunately Chewie has angular limb deformity, meaning his front legs haven't grown properly when he was a puppy. We have had this investigated by vets who are recommending management as being best for Chewie. This will likely mean early onset arthritis and the need for arthritis medication at a younger age. At this stage his legs are not affecting him. He is a medium sized dog, around 19kg and needs to maintain a healthy weight to help him manage with his legs into old age. He has attended physiotherapy and has special exercises to help him be as strong as he can. We recommend he has a good healthy diet to help his joints and his exercise and activity needs to be managed so he doesn't become injured.
Chewie needs a special home where people wont let him down. We all know that Wookiees are loyal and devoted partners and Chewie is hoping someone can show him the commitment he has been waiting for. I mean, who could resist that face?!!
