About π Jubilee π
Jubilee came to Squishies from one of our shelter partners 7 months ago.
She is 6 years old and despite being previously chipped as an Exotic Shorthair, we believe her to be a lilac British Shorthair.
Jubi had been returned to the shelter, after having been adopted several months before. The reason she was originally in the shelter and the reason she was returned was that she urinated outside of her tray.
Having had many before and not being shy of a βnaughty toileting mysteryβ, we set about observing and monitoring Jubi, to see if we could spot what her issue was. She had already been given a clean-ish bill of health from the shelter (she was overweight and a bit fluy, but her bloods and urine had been checked), so we experimented with different trays and litter and all the olβ tricks to get cats using their tray.
Try as we might, there was no convincing her, though we were able to establish that Jubi is more than happy to pee on a puppy pad (and always poops in her tray) and will toilet outside, if the need arises while sheβs pottering around the (secure) garden! We couldnβt however convince her to wee in a tray.
We decided to go back to square one and categorically rule out the possibility that there was a medical cause. We did pathology, urinalysis, radiography and ultrasounds β literally every test that could possibly expose a medical cause. Guess what we found?! Nothing. There is literally nothing medically wrong with Jubi and no medical or physical reason why she wonβt wee in a litter tray.
Along the way, we had of course looked for and ruled out literally every behavioural issue known to man and there was nothing that pointed towards any psychological cause either.
We have decided that after 7 months in care and several stints in the shelter and previous homes, it is time to stop trying to change Jubes and instead find her a forever home that understands and excepts her and her quirks, just the way she is.
Jubi is the sweetest, funniest little love-loaf you will ever meet! She is extremely affectionate and loves to have a chat. She is a pretty sedate girl most of the time, who likes to just meander through life at her own pace. Jubi loves to potter around in the garden and her ideal home would have access to a secure, outdoor area. She is fine with other cat friendly cats that mind their own business; sheβs not really interested in being besties, but as long as they donβt get in her face, sheβs happy to co-exist. Sheβs great with cat friendly dogs and very tolerant of them.
Jubes has a funny little waddle, but this is just another of her quirks, sheβs had x-rays and her joints and bones are fine!
Jubi is looking for a home where she will have a βbathroomβ area that consists of a litter tray and at least one puppy pad. If she is provided with this, we are extremely confident she will confine her toileting to this area only (poo in tray, pee on puppy pad). Having access to a secure garden (or if in a quiet area, taken for a stroll on a harness and lead) will also give her the opportunity to toilet outside, if she chooses.
Jubes need a restricted calorie diet and while she has been steadily dropping weight since arriving in care, this needs to be a slow process due to the amount of weight she had to lose, so she still has a little way to go.
If you think you have the perfect home to offer this gorgeous little dumpling, who moves to the beat of her own drum and you are 100% committed to accepting her the way she is, please complete an adoption questionnaire here - http://squishiesrescue.org.au/adoption-application/application-flat-faced-cat/
